I have trouble with bright screens. I got an Eizo screen which works at lower brightness. But newer versions of MacOS are optimized for Apple's screens with higher brightness and higher resolution.

So for several versions, the font rendering was awfully faint on my screen, and would give me migraines.

In the latest version, Sonoma, the font rendering is bolder again, and doesn't give me migraines.

I'm still trying to get more working in Linux, just in case.

I find the "Effects" setting in Cinnamon can block more animation than the "Reduce motion" setting in MacOS Sonoma, but both have room for improvement. I find the standard font rendering in MacOS Sonoma bolder than in Cinnamon, but I can change more font options in Cinnamon. I'm using Roboto Slab for a lot of the interface there.

I have an easier time reading pdfs on the Mac, at the moment, due to a bug which broke Page Down on some Linux apps. That may change if it gets fixed, or if I find another.

I use Okular for PDFs and others on Linux. The default settings need changed.
Also I find Mate Desktop (with adjusted settings) better than Cinnamon. Zero effects except for a faint shadow around windows and no animation.
My LG screen has brightness at 11 and contrast at 36. A 4K 23″ HDR 'paper like quality' display with zero flicker. 2x HDMI and one DisplayPort inputs.
No glare/reflections. The Apple own brand stuff is terribly shiny. I visited their big showroom here.
