Dumb ADE question
Can I use ADE simply as a viewer for non-DRM epubs without authorizing it? It's authorized on one computer and on my e-readers, but now I want to add it to another computer just for convenience.

I've tried a few other epub viewers, but I don't like them.

In addition, there's no particular reason not to authorize it on an additional computer. If you're using a central account, it will be able to read even DRM'd versions of ePub as long as they're all activated to the same account.

Since you plan on installing ADE and not authorizing it, I'd like to suggest using the ADE 1.8 preview. It's much nicer then 1.7.2. I'm using it along side 1.7.2 for non-DRMed ePub.

Yes there is - Adobe caps your total activations. Better to not waste one in case you get a new machine or the hard drive in your current one dies.

If you strip the DRM, there's no reason to use any extra authorizations then you actually have to. I think I've used 3 or 4 of them. Three computers and one reader.

I have no special reason except to avoid confusing myself unduly. I have one computer that I consider my main e-book computer, so that has all the related programs on it, and it's where all the e-book files are stored. I just want to be able to use a viewer on another computer occasionally to check a download (e.g., to see if it has a cover) before I move the file to the e-book computer.

I also have no idea what I've done with authorizations and how many I have left. All I know is that the status quo is working, and I just don't want to mess anything up!

Yes, I'm sure they do. But the cap is pretty liberal if I haven't gotten hit with it yet! I run ADE on multiple PCs here, and part of my work inevitably leads to rebuilding computers on a semi-regular basis. I haven't hit the limit yet. If I do, I'm quite sure I can get Adobe to reset their counter, since the issue isn't the number of real machines I have, but the number of rebuilds. And honestly, I very much doubt many people on this Forum run more personal machines than I do. (Though I'm sure there are some!)

Oh crap ! They switch to dotnet, among other things... ADE went from "works flawlessly in wine" to "impossible to run". Damm it !
