Free book (Kindle) - The Trophy Taker [Thriller, UK-only]

The Trophy Taker, a thriller by Lee Weeks, seems to have joined the rash of freebies in the UK Kindle store.

Needless to say, this is for UK-store using Kindlers only, who otherwise have only been getting a paltry few free books lately. A big thing on the cover says this is "The Female James Patterson". This may or may not influence your decision to download, given Patterson's current reputation.

Description

Its time that Amazon uk put up a few free novels. Ive just bouht a load from them this month.

Out of interest, how did you find it? When I search the free books in the Kindle UK store I just get pages and pages of classics.......

Sort by price and click on released in the last 90 days.

Even that often won't find them, as there are books that were released long ago that pop up as free (and old books re-released with new dates, but not a new edition, often with ebooks).

What makes me a bit preturbed is that you can't even buy a kindle version of the book in the U.S. I get that the free part of it is restricted to the U.K. but I can't see why they don't at least have the kindle version available to buy (even if not free) in the U.S.

Apparently the author has retained the US rights, so the current publisher can't legally sell the book here. There may be another publisher with US rights, but I don't see another ebook edition out there (of course, a lot of publishers are just sitting on ebook rights or have gone out of business and then the rights on in a weird limbo where they can't be sold at all until the lawyers settle it all).

I do understand that it isn't necessarily Amazon's fault and that it is sometimes complicated as to who has rights where. It does seem odd though. Still I'm not going to whine to much about it. Things could change in the future, and I'm sure there are still plenty of ebooks that are available free or not in the meantime.

That's odd, because the publisher operates in America, Canada, Australia and quite a few other countries. So if they can't sell internet-wide there's no hope for anyone else.

Their is a good website or blog called Books on the knob and she lists the free books and on the side it it says kindle free uk books . I beleive she might even post on this site.
