Right now, Nook Color has big price advantage over other Android tablets. But when prices drop low enough for both, say for example a $150 Nook vs a $200 tablets, I am not sure how much of a price advantage that will be. At that point, features become more important.

And Nook can compete by adding in those features. It's not locked into this hardware configuration forever.

Would they allow reading books from other stores? They will have to morph Nook Color into a full tablets to compete. Also unless B&N subsidize the Nook, the price advantage is not forever. The manufacture channels in Asia are the same for CE vendors.

If they're smart they would. Selling a non-competitive device does little to expose in-house content.

It looks like an OK tablet but it is not a e-reader replacement. Which is fine.

Is the wireless free like the Nook or do you have to buy a plan?

WiFi only. No contracts. So it's free.

Exactly what I want in a tablet.

There is no 3G, only WiFi.

If this is anything like the Pandigital Novel, it's actually not a tablet but an Android e-reader with some extra functionality. There might be a power button on one side and a volume rocker on the other - but without a menu and back button you can't use it as a tablet.

At $249, I don't see where this is going to fit in the tablet market. I don't think I'd want to spend that on this device if the UI is completely locked down. What if I want to play Angry Birds on it?

On the ereader threads PDF support is one of the most requested features. Perhaps B&N felt they needed a better device for that. There seems to be many who wish to put their manuals and textbooks on an ereader device and the advice is usually to look into an iPad.

This is exactly what I've been waiting for. I watched the video on Engadget and the performance seems fine. It does what I need it to do. It is now on preorder. Can't wait till end of November when I get a new Nook Color in my hands.

P.S. Full review with video coming soon after it is in my hands.

Seems a bit early to say for sure, since the software is still in a nascent stage.

My concern is the same as someone else already cited, namely that it's likely to be close in price to a full-fledged tablet, which will be far more capable.

If/when the price comes down though, it may work out better for them.

I'll wait until it's actually released and I can get some hands on time, but I'm considering it.

This. But...will I be able to install the Android version of the Kindle app on it?

I really don't think their strategy is to sell an android tablet. They are trying to create a brand with nook and want to set nook apart from the kindle in the ebook market. It will have apps, but the focus is ebooks, digital magazines, etc and that will be their strategy. Getting ebooks more mass market with a full color reader. I'm expecting comic book support to come as well.
