Who else is getting the new oasis?

I know I am. We may or may not be able to jailbreak it, but I'm sure going to try.

I wish it had been 7.8" instead of 7", but I'm still gonna get it.

The note about remote control during audio playback makes me wonder if they will support remote control in books too.

What else do you want to do with it once we get our hands on them?

Source for 5.8.11 is listed, but right now gives "Forbidden"

I would get it, if it were $100 cheaper.

I also wish it had a audio jack instead of just Bluetooth.

It will be interesting to see if the serial port is still gone or still hidden.

Maybe someone with more money than good sense will tear one apart for us.

"Just Bluetooth" is a lot more versatile than a simple audio jack.
That makes two models now with Bluetooth.
The first has been out for over a year now and yet no one has done anything here to install the generalized support.

Yeah, I'm not going to crack mine open, but I might try my franken-jailbreak, which I expect to still work right out of the box.

Well the screen is didderwnt, so it might not be safe

So I might brick it too!

Download the 5.8.10 binary to your PC as soon as it is posted - it may also be jail breakable.

We have had two reports now that the 5.8.10 (for other device models) was built without the protection from the "factory initial" package types.
The first might have been a mistake, but the second was done to a fresh OTA update to 5.8.10 and the test package report looks perfectly sane.

Either a mistake
or
A change of corporate policy (I would actually buy a new Kindle if this is a change in corporate policy - they must have been spending gobs of money fighting off our jail break procedures)
or
The only (quick) way they could get the voice files to install (which use the same package type as the "factory initial" packages).

Do put the blocker directory name on the device.
There is a 5.8.11 update hovering in the very near future.

It would be KO2. The A doesn't belong.

A Kobo Aura One is shortened to KA1, not KA1N.

The Kindle Oasis 2 is KO2 because KOA2 is just plain wrong.

I would get the K02 in a heartbeat, but I need to see whether I can justify the expense. I really like the option of the bigger screen.
