Move Over Pandora, Amazon Wants to Play

"Alexa, play music"
Quote:
Beginning today, Alexa customers in the U.S. will have access to top Amazon Music playlists and thousands of stations, at no cost.
  • Spoiler:
    Quote:
Since the launch of Amazon Music, customers have been able to use the simplicity and magic of voice to request music in fun, innovative ways. Interacting with music through voice is transforming how people engage with music—searching for a favorite station, or music by era or genre, is easier and more popular than ever before.

And so, beginning today, customers in the U.S. who do not yet have a Prime membership or a subscription to Amazon Music Unlimited will now be able to listen to an ad-supported selection of top playlists and stations for free with Amazon Music on compatible Alexa-enabled devices.

Customers now have access to play a station based on a song, artist, era, and genre, and to hear some of Amazon Music's top global playlists including Country Heat, Fuego Latino, and more. To listen, simply say:

    * "Alexa, play the playlist Pop Culture" to hear the ultimate global playlist for today's pop music.

    * "Alexa, play the Imagine Dragons station" to hear a station inspired by the popular rock band.

    * "Alexa, play 80s music" to hear a station filled with music from the era.

    * "Alexa, play country music" to hear a station with some of the best in the genre.

Prefer to listen to music on-demand, without ads? As part of a Prime membership, Prime members enjoy more than 2 million songs and thousands of stations and playlists across their devices including mobile, desktop, Alexa-enabled devices, and more, at no additional cost to their membership.
Amazon launches ad-supported music service to Echo owners
Quote:
Amazon today announced the launch of a free, ad-supported music service in the U.S. that will be available to anyone who wants to play free music on their Echo speaker.

Until today, Echo owners who wanted to stream music from Amazon could either pay for an annual Prime membership for access to Prime Music or they could pay $3.99 per month to stream from Amazon Music Unlimited (or $9.99/month to stream on non-Echo devices, as well.)

The new service has the same catalog as Prime Music, which today has just over two million songs. Amazon Music Unlimited, meanwhile, has 50 million songs.

From OpenCulture.com:

"In the wake of the great Notre Dame fire, the French video game company Ubisoft has decided to make its popular video game Assassin's Creed Unity free through April 25th, allowing gamers to "experience the majesty and beauty of the cathedral." The gothic cathedral figures centrally in the game. Start your download (available only for PC users) here. Once you download the game, you’ll own it forever in your Uplay games library.

Free on iTunes.

Aerial Ireland, Season 1. Produced by the Smithsonian Channel.

Description
Take a cross-country flight over Ireland's natural wonders and ancient ruins. In this spectacular overview of the historically significant Emerald Isle, we soar over Neolithic tombs of the Celtic era, medieval castles of the Vikings, and modern cities humming with life. From the tower that inspired a novelist to the ancestral home of a famous stout, we explore the sites, the people, and the milestones of this unique gem of Western Europe.

In digital HD, of course.

I don't not own an Apple product. I'd love to have access to iTunes. Does anyone know an easy way for a Windows 10 and/or Android user to get stuff from iTunes? One time, I tried to find a way, and I found several websites that told how to do it. However, all of them entailed doing some pretty time-consuming, and maybe even difficult, actions.

Thanks.

I'm sure that that information will be invaluable to some people. However, I extremely rarely watch TV, per se. I just talked Comcast into lowering my cable bill (by about $35/month)--I got to keep my Internet, and at the same speed, but the obligatory "basic cable" was all that was included as far as TV is concerned. No Smithsonian Channel. No premium channels at all (except Starz (Ack!)).

That's the way it goes. Life consists of trade-offs.

Amazon Prime members may be eligible to get a $3 promo code for listening to a full track on Amazon Music. You're only eligible if they've sent you an e-mail or shown you a banner about the promo, but the top of the promotion's page should show you if you're eligible or not. (I say should because I have no way of testing it on an account that's not eligible.) You do not need to install their player to do this, you can stream in your web browser.

Quote:
Stream a song on Prime Music for the first time from March 25, 2019 – May 19, 2019 and save $3 on your next qualified Amazon purchase. You must ensure that you are signed into your Amazon Prime account. Once you have completed your first stream you will receive an email on or before May 26, 2019 with your code. The code will then be ready for immediate use on your next qualified purchase on or before May 31, 2019.

Please note, your $3 code will be sent to you in an email. The code will have to be manually applied to deduct $3 from the order total (over $15) for your next eligible order for an item sold and shipped by Amazon at Amazon.com. Terms and conditions apply, see below for full details.
Full terms below:

Spoiler:
  • Eligible Amazon Prime customers who complete a Prime Music stream for the very first time between 12:00am PST on March 25, 2019 and 11:59pm PST on May 19, 2019 will receive a $3 promotional code to redeem against a future qualified purchase on Amazon.com (the “Offer”). The maximum benefit you may receive from this offer is $3.
  • The Offer is available to Prime members only who received this offer directly from Amazon through email or online display advertisements and who have visited this landing page while logged into their Prime account and also completed a Prime Music stream for the first time using the same account between 12:00am PST on March 18, 2019 and 11:59pm PST on May 19, 2019. If you’ve previously completed a Prime Music stream, you are not eligible for the Offer.
  • If you qualify for the Offer, the promotional code of $3 will be sent to you via email on or before May 26, 2019 and you can use it immediately for your next qualified purchase with a value of over $15 or more ("Minimum Purchase"). The email will also provide instructions on how to redeem the promotional code.
  • This Offer is non-transferable and cannot be resold.
  • This Offer is limited to one per customer and account and may not be combined with other offers.
  • The promotional code expires at 11:59 pm (PT) May 31, 2019.
  • The promotional code may only be redeemed against products and digital content sold by Amazon.com or Amazon Digital Services LLC (look for "sold by Amazon.com" or "sold by Amazon Digital Services LLC" on the product or content detail page) and all eBooks made available through Amazon.com. Products and digital content (except for eBooks) sold by third-party sellers or other Amazon entities will not qualify for this offer, even if "fulfilled by Amazon.com" or "Prime Eligible." Digital content and services may only be available to customers located in the U.S. and are subject to the terms and conditions of Amazon Digital Services LLC.
  • The Offer is subject to a Minimum Purchase requirement. Taxes, shipping and handling, and gift wrap charges do not apply when determining Minimum Purchase amount. Items must be purchased in a single order and shipped at the same speed to a single address. Shipping charges and taxes may apply to the full value of discounted and free promotional items.
  • If any of the products or content related to this offer are returned, your refund will equal the amount you paid for the product or content, subject to applicable refund policies.
  • Offer discount will be allocated proportionally among all promotional items in your order.
  • If you violate any of these terms, the offer will be invalid.
  • Amazon reserves the right to modify or cancel the offer at any time.

One thing to note, you may be eligible for this even if you have streamed music from Amazon Music before. I even have the player installed on my PC, and they offered it to me. It has been several months since I last used it, but I've streamed a lot of music from Amazon in the past.

Microsoft Gaming and Gaming-Related Deals.

If I understand the O.P. correctly, posting of games is allowed on this thread.

I just ran across the following deals. I'm not a gamer, so I don't know whether these are good deals or not.

The promotion is described as "Xbox Deals Unlocked E3 Week," at least for the Xbox stuff.
1. Xbox Deals: "Now starting at $199: Save up to $100 on Xbox One, including all-new Xbox One S Fortnite Special Edition and All-Digital consoles."
2. E3 game sale: "Save up to 75% on digital games . . ."
3. Take up to $50 off: "Lose yourself in the game and save on select gaming headsets for Xbox One."
4. "Save up to $20 on official Xbox gear like shirts, snap-back caps, and more."

View the slides at the top of this webpage, in order to view the things that I just mentioned. Microsoft has a real helpful "pause" button so you can stop any one of the slides.

That's just the tip of the iceberg of deals. To see more, first make sure that you click on "consoles," "digital games," "accessories," and/or "games (disc)," just below the slides--any of those are of interest to you. Then keep scrolling down to see a whole bunch of other deals, on other items! Somewhere I saw a couple of gaming computers marked down, but I don't see them now.

The URL, again, is https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/stor..._E3Sale_060719. Another webpage that shows some deals is https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/b/home.

The promotion began today, June 7 EDT, and for the E3 game sale, at least, is scheduled to end June 17.

"I just this offer in my email. Can anyone tell us if the offer's a good one (still in effect, etc.)?"

I already have this Biblical Archaeology Review subscription package (maybe with some slight differences); I don't know when it expires. If the offer's good for me, as a current subscriber, I'm going to see if I can extend my package; if not, I might look into canceling my current subscription, if there's not much time left on it, and starting over with this one. The deal is that fantastic! I don't remember what the advertised price is, shown inside the magazine issues, but I don't think that I'm exaggerating to say that it's around the $100 mark.

Well, the link still displays the deal. When I clicked on the "Subscribe" button, it said it was for new customers only. It doesn't say how long the deal is for, or when it will stoop offering it.

Thanks. I didn't click.

I hope that I don't miss out on the deal because I'm already a customer. I'll have to call them, and see if I can "wheel and deal" like (seemingly) a lot of you do with Amazon/Audible.

I wasn't really posting the deal, just asking a question about it. But this deal starts with a year's (bimonthly) print subscription, then there's a year's digital subscription, and then it goes on and on from there. For $9. That's not $9 per week or month. That's $9 for a year.

I'm sure that a lot of MobileReaders will appreciate that information.

Little-by-little, as I grew up to become a full-fledged adult, I watched TV and movies (including videos) less and less, to the point now that I never watch TV--literally. I bought a cable package, that has some basic TV channels, but I only got the package because of the high-speed Internet included in the package. I've got a very small flat screen HD TV, but it's been boxed up for a while.

I've bought a bunch of DVD's, thinking that I'd at least watch them, but I probably won't.

I don't even watch any YouTube (Vimeo, et al.) videos, unless I have to in order to learn how to do something.

Yeah, I'm unusual. I mean, "different."

I posted the Ireland video as a public service, because I thought that some MobileReaders would like to know about it. It seems that a lot of people who like watching videos and TV don't like the non-fiction stuff though. Kind of like how it is with books.
