Calibre locks up since last update

Hello, I have been using Calibre for years and absolutely LOVE IT!! I have never had any issues with it until today. I downloaded the new update and installed it and now whenever I click on the convert button or edid metadata button, Calibre locks up and I have to go into task manager and manually shut it down. I have never had this issue before so I assume it is something with the new update. I am running Windows 8. Can someone please help me figure out what is wrong? I have deleted and reinstalled it twice and that hasnt helped.

A real lockup or just a off screen (as in second monitor) dialog that is waiting for you to answer?

That was the problem! I didn't realize having a second monitor connected would do that. Thanks again!!!

The Monitor does not do that
Placing/moving the window/dialog to it does.

<rant>
(Windows or the 'Library' is stupid in that it should always check that the dialogs open with at a portion in the current available Screen area) </rant>

Maybe it could be overcome if calibre had option to not save the current window state on exit, it would need a companion option to force a save as at now, a'la

checkbox : Don't save window state (size, position, monitor) on exit
button : Save current window state (size, position, monitor) as it is now

I would use it even though I don't use a 2nd monitor with calibre. I don't like programs that assume I want to restore the shambles in which I last left it. I know many do, but I'm not one of that many, I'm one of the other many

One of the reasons I like the View PI, it its option to restore a designated view - so the ad-hoc sort I did just before I closed calibre yesterday is where IMO it belongs - in the dustbin of History.

I use Forte Agent news-reader. That is the way it works. You can (optionally) set the layout once and lock it (but I don't think it applies to popup dialogs)

- and my file manager (xplorer2), and my console (ConEmu), and...

I also use Actual Tools Window Manager, it helps with this sort of stuff, it costs and it works; the freebies mightn't cost, but in my experience they also don't work.
