Sony PRS-600 for PDF Magazine Scans?

Hi, I would like to buy a Sony PRS-600, I want to Scan some of my magazines and read them in my Loooooooong Commuting.

What is the experience with this kind of Scan PDF, Can I read the Pages just fine or the text and image would be unreadable. thanks

It will be dreadful. To read a magazine with any degree of comfort, you need a device with a magazine-sized page. The closest is the iRex DR1000S.

You can zoom, yes, but do you really want to have to zoom in to look at every page? The problem is, you see, that the zoom "resets" whenever you turn the page.

I see, so the zoom in action is not very user friendly

Zoom is good actually if you consider it as a tool to dig into one page and not as a layout tool.

The problem doesn't lie with the Reader, but with the PDF format - it's designed to reproduce a printed page at a given size (a task which it does excellently). It was never intended to be a "reflowable" format, able to be displayed on pages of different sizes.

Hi

Harry is totally correct, the unique options you have today are the Irex DR1000S and the Kindle DX.
Also, scanned magazines… I have a feeling we are talking about image PDF’s and that is even worst for small screen eBook readers… I will say almost impossible.

If you have a big commute why not consider a netbook? It’s small, your magazines will load fast and look great on them (on a controlled light situation …train per example?) - half page each time of course.
Also the price is very tempting and one gets a full good computer in the deal too.
Just give it a thought, well thought and one can get one with some 6 to 10 hour battery too.

Best regards,

Another 'Harry is correct' post.

PDF is designed to display print pages on a screen - not display screen-formated content.

I've tried magazine-size PDFs on a Sony 600. It's not worth it
