Connecting Kindle with PC via USB

Hello there,

I'm having problems connecting my Kindle PW (6th gen) with my PC (win 10). The Kindle is running Firmware 5.12.2.2. When connecting the device to the PC using a USB-A to micro-Usb cable the e-reader does not appear on the PC as a drive or as any device.

So far I have done:
  • Switching out the cable and using different ports
  • Restarting PC and e-reader
  • Resetting the e-reader
  • Search in device manager for any new device with no success

Is there anything I am missing, like a driver or an opt-in?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Do your cables work with a different device, not the Kindle?

There are different types of USB cables. There are (1) Data cables (these allow charging as well), and (2) Charge-only cables (these do not allow data, and the symptoms will be exactly as you described in your initial post).

Possibly, are you using charge-only cables? This is why I asked my first question - do your cables work (for data) with other non-Kindle devices?

Also disable any AV before connection. Some of those are aggressive; imagine you are important in a company and you see a USB beside your car door, pick it up and plug it in?
