AZW3 and PDF issues

I wonder why Kobo does not support AZW3?

and I wonder if there is one of these e-readers that actually makes reading PDFs readable for one who needs larger type; the magnification thing (spread fingers) moves text out of the window and by that makes the page impossible to read without undue hassle.

Perhaps AZW3 being a Amazon proprietary format might have something to do with Kobo not supporting it?

How then to reconcile that with support in Calibre and Sigil? Or is it your thinking that it is allowed there to create content, but not to use on other e-readers?

EDIT: Not sure of support on Sigil. New to all of this.

Please note that calibre requires the DeDRM plugin to handle most AZW3 files. Sigil also requires removing DRM before using the KindleImport plugin which given that the current DeDRM code requires calibre since the command line version of DeDRM is deprecated, would require using calibre to import/DeDRM the ebooks.

I can't see Kobo supporting use of the DeDRM plugin with their apps or ereaders. IMNSHO, that would be a unwinnable lawsuit waiting to happen.

If you want PDF on an eReader with larger type, pony up for one of the 10" or 13" models from Oynx or Boyue. Expensive but worth it if you read a lot of PDFs. Reflowing PDFs to make the text larger is always a bad experience.

Kobo probably doesn't support AZW3 since DRM-free books are few and far between and they probably don't want to deal with a million angry customers complaining that the book they just bought off Amazon doesn't work.

You can try to install KOReader on Your Forma but don't expect miracles. Anyway pdf handling of KOReader is better than the standard Kobo software, with it You can enlarge font on pdf.

if you are setup to remove the DRM from KF8 (AZW3) eBooks, you can convert to ePub to read on your Forma.

As for PDF, forget it exists.
