Question How to prevent calibre add a blank line at every <p>

First of all, I am dyslectic in a special way, I think and read in pictures, translate it into a plane question is difficult ( but reading is very fast )

I use calibre for epub-epub conversions, insert a font into the book ( amasis).
But at normal conversion calibre add a blank line at every <p> or <p class=... line in the epub.
But when I remove it using the option in the look and feel section of the conversion, in the part next under metadata ( remove whitespaces between alinea's ) it also removes the white lines at a scene change.
So there isn't a white line at all.
How do I prevent calibre adding a white line at conversion at every paragraph, if it didn't do it I could leave the option to remove them unused/unselected.
The conversion is ok, the amasis font is inserted and all original fonts are changed into the amasis font, but with every conversion an extra blank line is added when there is an <p> or <p class whatever > in the epub, and tick the option to remove every blank line, it does remove the extra added line, but also the blank lines that supposed to be in the epub.

I hope this is still clear for u now, I just don't want that calibre adds the blank line at every <p> or <p class whatever> otherwise it would work very fine, can anyone help me ?

There are two different options there.

Remove spacing will remove the lines at a scene break, too, and Insert blank line will add them between every paragraph.

What you want to do is just leave both unchecked; then calibre won't make any changes there.

As eschwartz points out if you don't want a blank line added between paragraphs then don't check the box to insert a blank line.

Thanks dear people, but when I uncheck them both Calibre still add a blank line ( the heuristic options are off ) at the <p> or <p class whatever> tags

Was this a book you had previously converted? If so you need to change the settings when you are converting. Changing the global settings won't effect a book previously converted you have to change the individual setting.

More info here.

Nope, this was the original book on the first picture, so no blank line, and on the second there was a blank line after conversion with both options turned off.

The first line started with:
<p class="noindent">Simon staarde verslagen naar de voordeur van zijn huis.</p>
Second line started with:
<p class="indent">Hij had nooit een ander thuis gekend. Dit was de plek waar zijn ouders hem naartoe hadden gebracht toen hij... and so on </p>

You can see in picture 1, there is no blank line in the original...
With both options turned off calibre inserts a blank line every time when a <p class="ident"> is in the html file ( at every paragraph ) where it is not in the original.

At the end I managed it with Sigil.
I restored the original epub and search for a place there have to be an original blank line.
Every line with <p class="noindentt"> has a blank line in the original not converted book.
I changed the line <p class="noindentt"> into 2 lines:
<p class="indent"><br /></p> ( adding an extra blank line )
<p class="noindentt">
This results in 2 blank lines where in the original was only once.
Saved it.
Then start the conversion again from the modified epub, but now the option: remove spacing between paragraps ticked on.
There are no inserted blank lines anymore inserted at the <p class="ident"> (or they are removed) And because of the <br /> between it there is only one blanc line where it supposed to be.

The behaviour during conversion looks like it doesn't matter of the option: Insert blank line between paragraps is on or off, calibre is simply adding a blank line at every paragrap at the conversion regardingless the unticked option, I can correct that by putting the option remove spacing between paragraps on, but then all the original blank lines are removed to.
In order to prevent that, I put an extra <br /> before the original blank line, convert it with removing spacing between paragraps on and then there are no blank lines at the <p class="ident"> inserted and the original blank lines are still there.

I hope you understand what I mean, it doesn't matter if the : insert blank line between paragraps is on or off, It just add a blank line at every paragraph.

Since calibre does not add blank lines include the complete conversion job log (step 2 in this sticky post) wrapped in spoiler tags.

I converted your "Before" book and it converted fine without any extra space between paragraphs. I'm not sure what is causing your problem but you have some things in your settings that are not in mine.

1. I don't have anything in the Filter Style Information box
2. I don't have anything in the Extra CSS box

You specifically told calibre to remove the following items from your book

Filtering CSS properties: , margin-right, text-indent, margin-top, margin-left, margin-bottom, margin

If I place this in my Filter CSS box it screws up my conversion too. Remove this from the Filter CSS box and you should be fine.

While your at it I would delete the extra stuff in the Extra CSS box too you can already adjust the @page margins in Page Setup, which I would move back to the defaults of 5pt. if I were you.

Thank you, I gonna try that all, maybe a clean install will work to, I try that at my laptop, until now I just update calibre.

/update
I follow up your advice and it helped, to be honest, I don't know where the filter CSS info is coming from, can't remember adding it.
It just say, filter out the margins because I like it when everything is aligned to the left and no extra space on the bottom or the top.
It should not insert a blank line on every paragraph but hey, as long as it works again thank you, sometimes there is no real reason but just good to hear that when another takes away something or add something, it helps.
There are so many switches now and sometimes the translation in Dutch doesn't make it more clear.

It should not insert a blank line on every paragraph but hey, as long as it works again thank you, sometimes there is no real reason but just good to hear that when another takes away something or add something, it helps.
I believe the default style for paragraphs, <p>...</p>, is
left-aligned,
top/bottom margins 1em,
left/right margins 0,
text-indent 0.

So its not surprising that filtering out margin-top and margin-bottom resulted in text which appeared to have a 'blank line' between each paragraph.

At the end saying this is maybe easy, but then you must know what the default style is, you dont know it for sure to, now was the extra css filter set by accident, but how can you know that when you filter something out, it falls back to a default setting, so not setting something will override the default ?
It is surprising to me that when you don't tick something, you will override the default and when you tick somthing it shows default behaviour, that is for me,the other way around.
Since the setting is now off, it should in your logica then add a space at the left and right margins, but it doesn't either.

There was no accident, the CSS filter had items in it because you placed those items there or whomever gave you this library placed the info there.

I don't think there is any calibre defaults for paragraphs. Calibre actually used the wrong info from your CSS for its class. The bottom line is you filled in the filter css with enough random junk (including an initial blank space) that I'm surprised you didn't end up with one massive block of text. It is possible that you uncovered a bug in calibre but since your use was an extremly sloppy edge case we may never know for sure.

This is not accurate. If you had nothing ticked and did not have anything in Extra CSS or Filter CSS you would not have had any issues.
