Kindle Oasis screen resolution

Can't be done.
The devices will not update in the box (in "shipping mode") and the logistics of unboxing them, updating them, and reboxing them is hard to imagine.
These things are produced in hundreds of thousand unit batches.

Have you tried 5.8.11 in your current Kindle yet?

Re the "Audible will come to existing Oasis's too" ( "it will be available via a free over-the-air update to ... the first Kindle Oasis in the coming months") Does the first Oasis have bluetooth? I don't see it in my settings. And there's no earplug jack. So how would the first Oasis use Audible?

Most wifi chips have bluetooth capability. Maybe they are just turning it on.

It might.
Bluetooth is include on the SoC but other than the 8th. gen Kindle Basic, not used.
And the antenna could be just about any printed trace.
Since the Oasis has never been closely examined, it might have a BT antenna and no one has noticed it.

But if the antenna is there, then it is just a matter of enabling Bluetooth in the Kernel.

We don't have a lot of non-publish technical detail on the Oasis.
Because of the cost and the lack of any known serial port, few people have experimented with the internals.

I suppose so. I hadn't thought of that but in my defence 31st seems a long way off. Which it is if you're anxiously waiting for a new toy, less so if you're preparing to release it as a product.

I didn't like the size of the 900/950. It should have been wider as well as taller. I never have liked these TPB that are taller and more narrow. They just feel odd to hold. and a Reader based on those is not going to be one I'll own.

They needed the width to leave room for the big fat mandatory margins.

Amazon are currently tying in Audible with Sonos. The operational system of that may be tied into what the Oasis can do too.
