Could be. I like to live dangerously.

I'm using a Kobo Clara 2E and 4.37.21586 and the only problem I've seen is that it spontaneously rebooted after one disconnect. I have forgotten to go to My Books a couple of times and didn't have any problems.

I've managed to reboot a few times before it imported books, and also had cases where calibre copied the books but didn't update the database due to some problem.

If the database is corrupted beyond use, the books won't import.
But if the database isn't completely corrupted, the should get imported after reboot just like they would after a proper disconnect. Of course, if you were expecting calibre to put those books into shelves, that won't happen until next time calibre syncs metadata, so it might *look* like they didn't import.

And if you really did reboot without ejecting, there might be both database and filesystem corruption that may or may not get fixed at reboot, and even if it is fixed, the (partially) copied books might be lost by the filesystem repair.

I just go to the home screen before connecting to the computer as I've done since at least 4.34.

Yes. To update my Calibre library when I finish a book, and send fanfic updates to device (which does not require import - see this page).

I've gotten the bug when connecting from home screen, but only after importing a bunch of books. I suspect that the import process (or possibly sync) had left a file open.

I get this bug too, even though I always return to the home screen before connecting. I never sync, so I don't think that's it. I've stopped trying to track it down and just reboot the reader before I connect. No problems since I started doing that.

I don't use Calibre so I always eject from Win10 (right-click KOBOeReader and click Eject). It takes awhile but eventually the book(s) appear on my Libra 2 and then I unplug. Originally the delay made me think I needed to unplug first, but then I realized it was just slow.

How long did you have to wait? I tried waiting a minute (maybe even a few minutes), but the connected and charging screen didn't go away until I unplugged the USB cable. Perhaps it depends upon your version of Windows.

I've left the Kobo plugged in to USB for an hour after ejecting from Win 11. The "connected and charging" screen remains until it is physically disconnected. Only then will it return to the home screen. Same in Win 10.

Try connecting to calibre and ejecting from there.

You said disconnecting from Win 11. That means used the eject in Windows. I'm saying to try ejecting using calibre's eject.

I always use calibre. People here were asking what happens if you eject from Windows. And to compare our observations.

Context.

I've tried using the SmartEject plugin in calibre, calibre's built in eject, Windows eject from File Explorer and using the USB widget in the systray. The only one I've had issues with is the USB widget.

fwiw, they both do the same thing - SmartEject uses the Calibre standard eject, it just runs some checks for duplicates and the like first.

I remember some complaints a while back about the two not working the same though I have never seen any difference so I tested with both.
