FREE for Kindle from amazon: The Mane Squeeze by Shelly Laurenston [Offer Expired]

UPDATE: This is no longer free (as of Nov 1st, 2009)

Sheesh, I'm finding a lot of freebies today - and it's not even the first yet! Here's another one:

The Mane Squeeze
by Shelly Laurenston
http://www.amazon.com/The-Mane-Squee...s=digital-text
$FREE

Product Description
In Shelly Laurenston's laugh-out-loud funny, deliciously sexy novel, a shape-shifting Grizzly and a single dangerous feline collide--and discover untamed, unstoppable attraction. . .
Growing up on the tough Philly streets, Gwen O'Neill has learned how to fend for herself. But what is she supposed to do with a nice, suburban Jersey boy in the form of a massive Grizzly shifter? Especially one with a rather unhealthy fetish for honey, moose, and. . .uh. . .well, her. Yet despite his menacing ursine growl and four-inch claws, Gwen finds Lachlan "Lock" MacRyrie cute and really sweet. He actually watches out for her, protects her, and unlike the rest of her out-of-control family manages not to morbidly embarrass her. Too bad cats don't believe in forever.

At nearly seven feet tall, Lock is used to people responding to him in two ways: screaming and running away. Gwen--half lioness, half tigress, all kick-ass--does neither. She's sexy beyond belief and smart as hell, but she's a born protector. Watching out for the family and friends closest to her but missing the fact that she's being stalked by a murderous enemy who doesn't like hybrids. . .and absolutely hates Gwen. Lock probably shouldn't get involved, but he will. Why? Because this is Gwen--and no matter what the hissing, roaring, drape destroying feline says about not being ready to settle down, Lock knows he can't simply walk away. Not when she's come to mean absolutely everything to him.

This is definitely NOT free in the UK - it costs $11.44

If an item is only free in the USA, please say so - it will save other people a lot of disappointment.

Those in the US who find these have no way of knowing the price in other countries. I doubt many will change their country setting 100 times (the current # of countries supported) to check ... and probably not even once just out of curiosity.

It's also possible the price may change in your country in a day or two (or not at all). And it appears that very country can have a different price, more than just the $2 charge plus VAT difference, which is normally seen on the freebies.

Is there a way to tell? By looking at the page I don't see anywhere they list the restrictions.

There are no free books in the UK Amazon store - the minimum price is $2.30.

Have UK publishers done any free books? I know Random House Austrailia has done a couple, but I don't recall seeing freebies from other non-US publishers.

Sorry - I didn't phrase that very well. No, there's no way to tell, but it's better to say "Free in the USA", so that people in other countries won't automatically assume that it's free for them.

Whether UK publishers do free ebooks or not will make no difference. The publishers don't get any of that $2.30 that UK users are asked to pay for 'free' ebooks - it all goes to Amazon.

It's a $2 wireless fee + VAT.

Isn't the wireless fee only applicable if you're downloading outside your home country? If you're downloading from your local Amazon site why would there be VAT?

Just looking for clarification as I'm in the U.S. and don't have to deal with the same issues as non-U.S. Kindle owners.

No, it looks like they're tacking a $2 premium to the price of all books for Intl customers besides the $1.99 wireless fee.

Amazon aren't calling it a wireless download fee. But the fact is that for most books available in US and UK stores, the UK price is the (US Price + $2) + VAT.

Granted, we don't have to pay another fee is we re-download wirelessly, but my guess is that Amazon have looked at the usage in the US, and found that 99% of books are only ever downloaded once.

VAT is applicable because in the UK ebooks are subject to 15% VAT, unlike paperbooks which are zero rated.
