What I couldn't figure out is how to call the browser without having it connecting to the wlan. Otherwise we would have a nice wikipedia viewer via kiwix.
Browser doesn't ask for file:/// urls at all. For http:// it asks, but you can decline. Beware that shop browser doesn't take no for an answer, and will try to force wifi anyway, but the normal browser is more reasonable. The bigger issue is that non-rooted devices don't have loopback, meaning theres no ip to point to. Recent firmware versions allows non-root users to call ifconfig via sudo, so one can do something like this as non-root:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
sudo ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1 up
/mnt/ext1/bin/thttpd -d /mnt/ext1/www -p 8888 &
/ebrmain/bin/browser.app http://127.0.0.1:8888/
This will ask for wifi, you decline, and then it loads the page from localhost anyway.

While kiwix would be nice and could easily be set up as above, the wikis are really large - 18GB en wiki w/o pictures, + another cca 10GB if you want fulltext search index.

Cool thanks, the English wiki maybe too large but still there is the kiwix dump of project Gutenberg and other interesting smaller dumps.

Hi, like you, I tried to have Kiwix working on my PB632.

The issue : "you can decline" => not in my case ?

1) I rooted the device through https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=3921722

2) my kiwix server is working fine, I can access it through a distant browser, and since I rooted the device, now also through local browser, **when WiFi ON**

3) I checked (with ipconfig) that my loopback interface is OK before running kiwix.

I would like to access http://locahost:8080/ even when no WiFi

when WiFi OFF, when running the default browser (a chromium, I think) with default_page to a local "file:///" url, it's OK, I can access the page.

when WiFi OFF, when running the browser with default_page to "http://locahost:8080/" or "http://127.0.0.1:8080/", it keeps asking to start the WiFi, press cancel just make the dialog box come again and again.

How did you find that "you can decline" ?

I tried to add "--no-proxy-server", same.
I tried to run directly /ebrmain/bin/browser.app (instead of the standard script that runs "/ebrmain/bin/openbook /ebrmain/bin/browser.app"), same.

Do you have an idea ?

FW is V632.5.19.1120
