Onyx M92 or Icarius Excel

Hello everybody,

I am looking for a 9 inch eink tablet. I found a lot of reviews which say that the Onyx M92 and the Icarius Excel (which are very similar since the second one is based on the first) are quite good. I was decided to buy the Onyx M92 because its firmware seems to be updated more often.

However I just found this test :

I was quite surprise to see that some major features (for my perspective) of the excel Icarius are not available in the Onyx M92, namely:
- has a dictionary which can be accessed offline (I am not english - as you may have realised... - so maybe I found it more important than you)
- has directory organization
- has an external memory slot
- has a search browser

Strangely, these differences have not been mentionned in the other tests that I found. So I am wondering about the following questions :
- Is the test correct ?
- Don't you think that these differences are significant ?
- For you is it more important than a firmware updated on a regular basis ?

The test cannot be correct. The Icarus Excel is an Onyx M92. Same hardware, so firmware is interchangeable. Actually, Icarus does not create its own firmware, they just buy a rebranded version from Onyx.

Note that the M92 has been on the market for a while, and it is possible that in the meantime Onyx has replaced one or more components, so that there may be small differences between older and newer versions. But these changes are minor. They would not remove the memory slot, for instance.

The test you've linked to is - to put it bluntly - abject nonsense. The M92 and the Icarus are the same device (the Icarus is simply a rebranded Onyx). You can install either the Onyx or the Icarus firmware on either.
