Calibre stopped working

Hi, have anyone experienced a similar issue where Calibre suddenly stopped working and caused their laptop to hang?

I'm using Windows 8.1, and have tried uninstalling and reinstall with the latest version of Calibre. When I click on Calibre, it'll hang after few seconds, without getting to the user interface. I'm not sure what could've caused this. I found this out only yesterday. Calibre was working fine the week before.

I'm hoping we could troubleshoot this, as I'm using Calibre as the main tool to organize my ebooks.

Any thoughts?

I have tried to open Calibre in safe-mode, and it still fails to open. I'm quite lost on what to try now. This started to happen recently too.

EDIT: I think I've figured it out. I think it clashed with Xkit for Google Chrome. Thanks for the help!

@julienma - DDG search says its a Browser extension to do with Tumblr

The link posted by kovidgoyal lists a number of other potential causes - did you check to see if any of them apply.

Me too

I have the same problem.. I have gone to the FAQ section and it doesn't help. I am trying the do the whole debug thing now but it isn't helping. This started after the update we had two ago. I was hoping that update today might help but it didn't.
Anybody have any suggestions?

Now it said Error Communicating with Device
