Heh. So that is the end result of Kobo's attempt to hang on to Agency in Canada.

Of course, being able to offer discounts doesn't mean they will.

Edit: ...and it turns out the decree isn't even effective for one year. Just nine months.

Now, nine months might theoretically be long enough to give consumers a taste of actual competitive pricing and a chance to stock up before the return of price fixing so there might be a nine month spike in sales followed by a collapse that might inspire publishers to reconsider price fixing but I doubt it.

Well, for the next 9 months, I'll be buying more eBooks on my Canadian Amazon account, I suspect. I only buy from Kobo when I have a coupon.
