They haven't launched a watch. They may have announced work on a 200ppi 1.3" display.

Thanks for the video of the CLEARink stand at Display Week 2018 in Los Angeles.
Claimed features (stand text in video) of the Black/white display: 1:16 Contrast ratio 202 dpi 83% Reflectance EInk Carta displays claim 15:1 Contrast Ratio 44% Reflectance Better contrast, and nearly TWICE the reflectance! |

6" colour display details from the video:
20% NTSC 106dpi 35% Reflectance I must admit that I'm surprised at the low reflectance. EInk claim 40.7% reflectance for their Triton colour display. |

I think the mantle for the watch is out of a 3-D printer. But anyway, maybe it is important to understand that CLEARink is not a watch developer, just a display developer for watches. Even this is not quite correct. The goal is to develope a kit so that later others can produce the watch they want with this new reflective technolgy.

@ pdurrant
Where have you read a white state reflectance of 40.7% for the Triton colour display? Do you mean this source here: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/E_Ink_Triton This is not the official Eink site. On the official site https://eink.com/product.html?type=productdetail&id=27 they do not mention the white state reflectance anywhere. As we all know the white state reflectance of a monochrome ePaper 1.0 (eink bistable, no color, just black and white) is about 45%. It would be very difficult to achieve 40.7% with a color filter. In fact all color eReaders of the past looked washed out some displays even as if looking through a tinted car window. And all three CLEARink displays in the video from the SID Display week showed a very good white state reflectance, also the color displays. It is interesting to see that CLEARink could keep the white state reflectance with 35 % on the same level for both color devices and the color gamut could strongly be improved even despite the dramatic increase in resolution. But I contacted CLEARink and got some answers from Mr. Peruvemba. Some years ago he worked for Eink and even announced the Triton. He does not have the exact specs in mind but expects them to be around 15% (fifteen). I also asked about the ghosting effect. This is due to drive electronics that needs to be tweaked. He confirmed that this can be solved completely. To me CLEARink seems to have the most promising ePaper / eColor solution I have seen so far. But still we have to be patient. CLEARink is on track: A new partnership agreement with a leading tablet maker to supply CLEARink tablet displays.
"FREMONT, Calif., May 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- CLEARink Displays Inc, the leader in next-generation reflective displays, announced today that it has signed a partnership agreement with a leading tablet maker to supply CLEARink tablet displays beginning in 2019. The CLEARink tablet displays will feature up to 50% larger form factors than conventional reflective tablets, high resolution, video and colour. The devices will be targeted at the large tablet market, where consumers today have to choose between the 1 day battery life of LCD based tablets, or the total absence of color and internet browsing capability of monochrome reflective tablets. CLEARink displays combine the best characteristics of LCD and reflective displays by offering color, video, low power, outdoor readability and low cost. "This first major supply commitment for our 2019 CLEARink tablet displays is a confirmation of the enormous progress that CLEARink has made over the last 12 months," said Joel Pollack, Board Director at CLEARink Displays. "Since Display Week 2017 we have been overwhelmed with demand from customers that serve the wearable and tablet markets. We have chosen this particular client because of their detailed launch plan, global appeal and unique positioning," said Frank Christiaens, CEO at CLEARink Displays. He added "In a few years from now you will wonder why you ever accepted a tablet with a screen that you can not read outdoors." Source: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...300655799.html |

^ sounds like they are trying to go into full size text books in the 12"-14" range. Include a front light plus stylus and they may have something.

http://www2.eink.com/sell_sheets/triton_spec_sheet.pdf I must admit I was very surprised by the 40.7% figure myself. Perhaps they mean the reflectance of the surface before the colour filter is applied. |
