Update metadata on device (author)
I have 100+ books on my Kindle Oasis. Most are displaying with Firstname Lastname (based on the author metadata from Calibre). I sent the books to my device via email. I'd like to update the metadata for the books on the device so that they display Lastname, Firstname. Obviously, I could delete all of the books and send them again, but there has to be an easier (and faster) way, right? I created a new library in Calibre and copied the books to that new library and then fixed the author metadata, but it doesn't appear that those changes were synced with the device.
So my question is: Using Calibre, what is the best method to update the author metadata of books already on a Kindle? |

You need to resend the updated book files. They contain the metadata that the kindle uses.

If I "send to device" from Calibre, will I wind up with two copies of each book on the Kindle or will the existing copies be replaced?

If the file name (based on the metadata) is changed you will end up with two copies. At least I assume so.

As long as the metadata used for the file name is the same (title and author by default) you will not get multiple copies. Still, with kindles it is a good idea to first delete the book, eject the kindle to let it update it s index and then resend, to make sure the kindle sees thebook as updated.

I guess I know what my Kindle will be doing while I go to lunch!
Thanks for the help. |
