[GUI Plugin] Job Spy

Still locking up library. It tries to create a library, then it errors with that "Null" thing, then if I hit "cancel" I am able to access the libary, but can't download books at any decent rate. Then when I try to get back to the library that I was cloning, it is not available in the quick switch. I then have to restart calibre to access it. This is after having JS unprotect all columns.

I looked at the debug log, and you have several issues unrelated to JS:

(1) the following plugin needs to be manually removed from your configuration file. It will never work. Calibre is on Qt5, not Qt4. You can open that directory from Preferences> Miscellaneous.

(2) your DRM plug-in has all kinds of failures. I know nothing about that plug-in.

You did not download version 1.0.43, because it is only :21 after the hour. You must upgrade to version 1.0.43 before going any further.

You can manually download the .zip from the OP and use Calibre>Preferences>Plugins to import it from a file.

So, the above posting is moot. Of course it did not work.

Version 1.0.43 -2016-05-28 Technical changes to saving JS+ preferences when Calibre libraries are cloned.

This fixes the the "null constraint" error.

What was "it"? Exactly what was the version number shown in the Plugin Updater? View the OP for the very latest. Also view the Version History to know what each one did.

If it crashes AFTER you install Version 1.0.43, and after you have verified that exact version number in the Plugin Updater, and after you have restarted Calibre, please send me the debug log.

I am working on version 1.0.44 to resolve corrupt preferences that are causing the crashes when the library changes. The corrupt preferences pertain to the Tool "protect/unprotect custom columns from Edit Metadata".

If this happens to you, please uninstall JS until I post version 1.0.44 and give you the okay.

Just becasue an error message is displayed regarding PyQt4 does NOT mean the plugin is broken. That means the plugin is supporting both old AND new versions of calibre by using a snippet of code that if it can not load QT4, loads QT5.

I remember back at the time of the move to QT5 having a similar discussion with you where you saw no point accommodating those who could not move to calibre 2.x.

Wrong. It does not support Qt5. I downloaded the plugin to confirm that the error message was a hard import error, not a "try:except" situation.

Version 1.0.44 -2016-05-28 Dynamic menu-related changes to avoid issues that were causing Calibre to silently crash when the library was changed.


This fixes the crashes when libraries were switched.

I had (unknowingly) caused this by making an enhancement related to using Favourites for the enhanced 'Protect/Unprotect Custom Columns for Edit Metadata' functionality.

Calibre did not like the menus having their names changed whenever the library was changed, and crashed silently (i.e., printing no error messages as to the reason). That took a long time to discover. Using the Favourites plug-in as a model, I fixed JS the way Favourites was fixed a long time ago.

JS works for me now flawlessly, including creating a new library by copying the structure of the current library. I hope it works flawlessly for you too.

You are correct, that version of the plugin will not work with calibre v2. But, it won't harm anything. Calibre attempts to load the plugin and when it doesn't load, drops it completely. Nothing is going to be harmed by this except when they want to use the plugin.

I also don't know what you meant about the DRM plugin having "all kinds of failures". The log showed it loaded with no errors and that it processed a book to remove the DRM. Where's the failure in that?
