viewing books on device when not plugged in

Is it possible to view books in calibre that are currently on your device without plugging your device into calibre?

I would find that really helpful when sorting my library.

I tried a search but have a feeling I am not asking correctly.

thank you

It is a fairly common question in a couple of different forms. Moving device library to another device and Can Calibre "remember" epubs that have been transferred to ereader (kobo) are two I can quickly find and cover the three basic suggestions on how to do it (Reading List plugin, a custom column and don't bother/track what is being sent).
