The floaty feeling went away after a while. When I woke up I had a very dry mouth. So far today is going well; no itchy throat, just dry and raw. So I've got more ice tea and some yoghurt, which usually helps with these symptoms.

Argh! I'd had cataract surgery on my left eye mid December. I also wear hard contact lenses so haven't had one in the left eye for over 2 months.

Yesterday I had an appointment for eye tests and to order a new lens for the left eye. Since I will also need cataract surgery in the right eye we didn't order a right lens.

Just as I had left the optometrist the right lens popped out on to my cheek. No problem, caught it and reinserted it.

This morning I was getting set to pick up clients for our Adult Day Program and.... the lens popped out again, although this time not onto my cheek. It's now officially AWOL

Have left a message at the optometrist asking them to order a right lens as well (and put a rush on it). Now to search the house and see if I can get lucky and find an old right lens at home.

Can I say #### ***** $$$$$ &&&&&& in this forum?

UPDATE: Have found an old right lens. Now to soak it for a few hours, clean it and try it.

And yes the optometrist's office is working on the lenses for me

I should add I'd planned to take the subway downtown so had driven to a close by station, only to find the parking lot close to the station full. Actually the car in front of me found a place which would have been mine if I hadn't got stuck behind a stopped bus while a line of traffic passed me.

Yes there is another lot at that station but there are a heck of a lot of stairs between it and the station and with my CROW boot (think of a removable cast that goes up to my knee), stairs are not my friend.

Luckily I had time to drive downtown and one does get 2 hours free parking at the optometrists office.

Glad to hear Rumpel is feeling a little better. Peter, I hope you get your lens soon! I'm not looking forward to the day I'll be old enough for cataract surgery.

Most people I've known who had cataract surgery were probably in their 70's but I've known some in their 60's and one in his 50's. I'm in my 50's now so who knows when my turn will come....

My lingering persistent coughs are either pneumonia or acid reflux. Once I started on the acid reflux medication, the coughs disappeared. I really need to lose weight as it may reduce the acid reflux, but you know how that goes.

I'm 60 now and have a cataract in my left, blind eye. Doc is only concerned if it affects my peripheral vision and so far, not a problem. I have retina damage which they can't fix, but the peripheral vision is important to maintain my driver's license.

Pleased to say I found an old right lens; have soaked it for a bit and given it a good cleaning.

I can SEE clearly again. (And I only turned 60 last August, so not that old when I had cataract surgery).

Cataract surgery has come a LONG way. It's now pretty much routine, and the results are very good in most cases. I ended up with good enough vision that I don't need glasses at all. For knitting, I do sometimes put on some reading glasses to give me better depth perception up close, and I have a rigid gas permeable contact lens that I can wear in my distance eye if I want extra sharpness. (I ended up with just a bit of astigmatism in that eye, and nothing gets rid of astigmatism better than a hard contact lens. But for sitting around the house, watching TV? Or even, technically, for driving, it's purely optional.)

My mom had her cataracts done when she was 83, and said she wished she had done it sooner. The prep took longer than the procedure.

I'm not looking forward to it, because I'll lose my close-up vision, and need readers when that happens. My vision is terrible, but I can still see very close up, 5-6 inches from my eyes. I'm legally blind without correction, about 20/700 or so, and wear progressive lenses in my glasses, which are very expensive.

One person I know was like me - nearsighted so he needed glasses for distance, but he could read well without glasses. The cataract surgery gave him better distance vision but he lost the ability to see up close without glasses. He didn't like it because he could no longer read without glasses. I've had a lifetime of very good closeup vision and would have a hard time adjusting to life without it.

There's always the option of going for "mono-vision". One eye for distance, one eye for close. That's what I have, and it works quite well. For me, it was an easy choice, since I'd done the same thing with first contacts, then Lasik. You get enough information from the other-length eye to have decent perspective (though I admit, my knitting requires some extra help there.)

For people who've never done it, there can be a slight adjustment period. A friend here had it, and was having issues the first few days, but her brain finally kicked in and figured it out.

Finally, there ARE multi-focal lenses they can use. They're more expensive, and often the extra isn't covered by insurance. But if you're resistant to the idea of mono-vision (or the surgeon says you're not a candidate for it), that might be an option.

I opted for a Crystalens by Bausch & Lomb. It is an accommodating lens that is a monofocal lens that is moved by the eye muscle in response to the distance, intermediate or near vision zones.

Since my left central vision had been destroyed by AMD, I only needed one intraocular lens for my right eye. Crystalens, at the time cost $3K above my insurance coverage, so it was a bit of a gamble as to whether it would work. My general experience is; save your money, if they work at all it is only minimally. And I'm still dependent on spectacles.

To be fair, my visual aberration is astigmatism, which was not completely correctable with Lasik, but even so I still see much more clearly with progressive lenses in front of my eyes. And since I've worn glasses for nearly seventy years not much has changed except my wallet is $3K thinner.

The accommodating lens sounds like a good idea if it worked. I guess I can hope they will develop better ones by the time I need one.

My sister-in-law had the multi-focal lenses implanted but has been less than happy with them. My eye doctor is not a fan either.

Back when I wore contacts, I tried the "one for distance, one for closeup" but it didn't work for me at all. I'm not a good candidate for Lasik either, my pupils are "too small". I already deal with halos around lights at night, no depth perception, and have trouble driving at night.

Thank goodness for light-weight progressive lenses, roll and polish edges, transitions, crizal, and magnet sunglasses for the glasses. I've worn glasses since I was 5-6, and will be 61 next week.

Last night I took my last sleeping pill, right now I'm nervous about the coming night. Just in case I got the cough syrup with codeine in it. The sleeping pills did a great job, though it make me wake up each night with a very full bladder. It was hard to get to the toilet without bumping into anything on the way and then not to doze off on the toilet. The last couple of days I also suffered from some muscle weakness, especially in my knees, which made going up and down the stairs difficult.

As a very light sleeper I hardly ever have slept this well. When I sleep deep I usually wake up more tired than when I went to sleep. I need to look into achieving such a good night's sleep without the aid of sleeping pills.
