What's wrong with Project Gutenberg?

Does anybody have an idea what's wrong with Project Gutenberg. For the last week, there have practically been no uploads of new books. Have they taken a few days off or is there something seriously wrong?

Hmmm. Yes, I see what you mean now. It is unusual to have had so few books posted in the last week.

There are no clues as to what may be happening. As far as the activity hub is concerned, business is 'normal' ...

Perhaps they are done and they now have every book ever published that is in the PD. Or perhaps they decided that Google wins.

They should switch language then

Of all languages of the world, only english seems to be properly represented on PG.

The problem is not at Gutenberg but at the Digital Proofreaders; some technical issues that will not be fixed until the end of April. It means that no books are being sent to Gutenberg.

According to my wife who does proofreading and formatting for the Digital Proofreaders it was a hardware failure, not expected to be repaired until the end of April. She does not know the nature of the problem.

I think it is back up and running today -- I just uploaded a new book for them to work on -- or at least I THINK I just uploaded a new book for them to work on.

Certainly looks as if it's back up - the "new releases in the last 24h" listing at PG is now showing half a dozen new books.
