Kobo signs new Australian retail partner
Those among us who have been wondering what Kobo's future held in the Australian marketplace will be very pleased to hear that Collins Booksellers are Kobo's latest retail partner, commencing as early as September. With 50+ stores, plus moves to pick up 20 orphaned A&R franchisees, this should give Kobo a decent retail presence in the Australian market.
Still no word as to an Australian release for the Kobo Touch Edition. http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20...rtner-collins/ |

Well that is good news. Collins have a branch at Southlands, not more than ten minutes drive from home.

Thats good news It's interesting that according to the linked article that the B&M retailers will get a share of the online sales including the sale of ebooks. I will definetly be keeping an eye out for the new collins website and I may even drop into the local store its just down the street I think I've only ever been in there once.

Too late for me, I went for a Sony. I love it so have no regrets at the moment. I would like to look at the KoboTouch though.

I went for a Sony PRS-650 and like you would love to check out the KT. Strangely enough, there is no mention of the KT in the press release, only the Kobo wifi, which I thought was not being sold anymore.

The new Kobo Touch is just barely beginning to get out of MA. You can order it from Swindon's in Hong Kong, but that's the only location outside of NA that carries it. Everyone esle is still selling the Kobo Wifi.

It's hard to know what impact the Border's closing is having on Kobo -- that is, where did they allocate July / August Touch supplies and where are they in the supply chain?
In any case, Kobo Touch is dramatically a better device than the Original Kobo and capable of selling very well in whatever markets it is unleashed upon. No doubt the Kobo elves are working overtime manufacturing these and shipping them strategically to markets in North America, Europe (and Britain), Asia (and Australia/NZ). Presumably by late summer / early fall it will be available in most markets. Assuming Sony is launching a new model by Sep, Kobo will want to have arrived wherever it can by that time. |
