"Flipping" through book

I have one of the original Kindles. If there is one thing I miss as compared to a real book is the inability to "flip" through the book looking for a particular passage or portion of the book.

I am not talking "search" or "locate" but just flipping pages in a comfort book read many times to reread a favorite passage. I know of no easy way to do this on a Kindle.

I also have an iPhone 3GS and downloaded the free "iBook" application. This application gives me a little scroll bar at the bottom that allows me to "flip" through the book. Why can't the kindle do this?????

My question is does any of the ebook readers provide this type of ability to "leaf" through a book?

The screen refresh of eink displays is too slow for 'flipping'.

Actually, the touch screen Sony readers allow you to rapidly flip through the pages of a book.

One thing nice about the PDFs I have made from scanned (no OCR) paper books is flipping pages is easy when I'm reading them on my computer. Even "real" e-books are easy when I'm using the reader that comes with calibre on my computer (I like to read them from the 32" TV I have patched into my computer, using a wireless mouse for a "remote". It seems to me any problems lie with the readers, such as slow refresh rates on e-ink screens (not all the noticeable when reading but suddenly horrible when flipping pages), etc. The technology is slowly improving so it's just a matter of time before it gets better and the prices come down.

Yes, this is true. With the Sony 600 you can swipe the screen to turn the pages, and if you hold your finger or the stylus down the pages will flip. You might be able to do it also by holding down the page turn button but I haven't tried that.

Yes, you can also do it with the page turn button.
