When a local man is killed in a motor accident on Dartmoor, and the inquest finds death by misadventure, at least one person is not satisfied. Anonymous letters to Scotland Yard and the county Chief Constable claim that the inquest ignored that the man was bludgeoned first. Chief Inspector Richardson investigates, but it becomes very complex when it transpires that the victim was hiding under an alias. Who was the victim? Who killed him? And Why?
