More than likely it's because they need (or want) Kindle for PC AND Calibre running in the same environment.

Thank you, I never noticed that difference in verbiage of "Based on the print edition (ISBN X)" versus "Contains real numbers based on the print edition (ISBN X)"

Okay, this one I think should have it as it says, "Contains real page numbers based on the print edition (ISBN 0156031078)." However, page numbers are not showing up in the converted EPUB.

Bizarre. Two books so far we've found where Amazon says they contain real page numbers but don't. Wonder how many are mislabeled.

EDIT: Found a third, curiously enough by the same author as the last.

Another weird bug - in this book, the proportions show up right on Kindle for PC, but when I bring the KFX file from Kindle for PC into Calibre the proportions are messed up. I also was able to download and open it on my Oasis, where the proportions are right, and brought the KFX file from my Oasis into Calibre (which oddly is in color) and the proportions are still messed up.

That book uses Amazon's fixed layout comic format. Calibre does not deal well with fixed layout books. In order to read the book properly enable the "From KFX" toolbar action and use that to convert the book to either PDF or CBZ format, bypassing calibre's conversion pipeline. (See the first post in this thread for more information.)

Thank you, this worked. Backing up all my library now and I guess this is the first fixed layout comic format I've imported. Funny enough all of the other children's books come in as .azw3 in Kindle for PC and won't download at all on my Oasis. It's also funny that the converting the book to .CBZ and .PDF keeps the right layout, but the layout shows incorrectly when opening the .KFX in Calibre.

calibre's viewer does not directly open a KFX format ebook. calibre first converts the ebook to ePub and then calibre's viewer displays the ePub. That's interesting. It's odd Calibre displays KFX when it's not actually showing the KFX.

Calibre does a KFX to EPUB conversion on the fly and opens the converted KFX in the viewer. If I recall correctly, calibre converts most everything to epub before opening it in the viewer.
