X-link to the Non-Fiction megathread for another Christie-related work:

@ £0.99 from HarperCollins in the UK only, Agatha Christie's Complete Secret Notebooks by Christie scholar John Curran is an omnibus edition of 2 books of his examining her writing and influences drawn from said notebooks which she originally planned and outlined her stories in.

This includes three previously unpublished (as of time of original publication circa the late 2000s) short stories: 2 Poirots and a Marple, plus some behind the scenes looks at the original manuscript ending for A Mysterious Affair at Styles and other bonuses.

ETA: two high-quality companion guides are also discounted in the UK @ £1.49 & £1.99: Agatha Christie’s Poirot: The Life and Times of Hercule Poirot by Order of Canada-recipient author Anne Hart & The Life and Crimes of Agatha Christie: A biographical companion to the works of Agatha Christie by Charles Osborne (Estate-authorized author of the novelizations of her plays)

If you grabbed The Poisoned Rose back when it was free (or even if you didn't ), the second in the series, The Bone Orchard, is free right now at Kindle US. Per SYKM, the first one, Rose, won a Shamus award, and this one was a finalist for a couple of awards.

Spoiler:
Quote:
Caught up in a blood feud with Southampton’s chief of police, one-time PI Declan “Mac” MacManus must these days tread lightly. Working for minimum wage as a dishwasher, Mac is too busy making ends meet to find trouble—that is until a power-player named Frank Gannon approaches him with a job his conscience won’t let him refuse. And when that job sets him up to witness a back-road car crash—a crash that was clearly no accident—Mac must once again choose between taking action or letting the innocent suffer. As he follows a trail of clues, dodging enemies, old and new, Mac struggles to uncover a truth that could very well bring an end to all his troubles—and may also hold the shocking answer to a haunting question about his own tragic past.

There's a James Ellroy short story collection, Hollywood Nocturnes going for $1.99 on Amazon.

Reviews seem fair-to-middlin' though.

Some Open Road price drops to $1.99, a couple new to me. I have been enjoying filling in William G. Tapply's Brady Coyne series, which I remember liking a lot in DTB days, and also Stuart Kaminsky's Inspector Rostnikov series which I hadn't read, but like the couple of titles I've tried so far in e-book. And also William L. DeAndrea's Matt Cobb series, which I can't really figure out why I like, but I do...

Song of the Lion is the third and most recent in Anne Hillerman's continuation of her father's Leaphorn/Chee/Manuelito series. It briefly (like for a day) dropped to $2.99 back in June. It has now dropped to $1.99 at both Kindle and Kobo US, no idea for how long.

Thomas Enger's Cursed (Henning Juul series #4) is $0.99 at Kobo Australia and New Zealand. (Price hasn't dropped at other retailers yet.)

I wouldn't say this is one of my favourite crime series, but I've read the first three and am now buying the fourth, so I guess there must be something I enjoy about it.

Yep, it's a repeat

The Dancing Bear
by Frances Faviell, a pseudonym for the late British author and painter Olivia Faviell Lucas, is her vintage personal expat memoir of life during the post-WWII years in Germany, where her family was stationed in Berlin as part of the reconstruction efforts, spanning from 1946-1949, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Dean Street Press.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...05#post3616305

And calling an Amazon.com link a US link is /true but incomplete/ since non-US users may see something different

You're right about the link.

I misread your links, since I was thinking every link was to Patricia Wentworth.

-- Thanks for the clarification.

Dark Water is the most recent (2107) in the Makana series by Parker Bilal. It has dropped to £1.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Water-Makan...dp/B01N2JPVXF/

Spoiler:
Quote:
A scientist specialising in chemical warfare is on the run in Istanbul in a gripping new investigation for 'one of crime fiction's most interesting and sympathetic detectives' (The Times)

When Marcus Winslow appears at Private Investigator Makana's door one April morning, Makana does not realize that soon he will risk losing everything he has built for himself in Cairo.

A representative of the British government, Winslow has come with a mission, one impossible to turn down: Ayman Nizari, an Iraqi scientist specialising in biochemical nerve agents, a man whose work could kill thousands, is on the run and asking for asylum. But he insists that he trusts only one man to bring him to safety: Makana. But why is Ayman demanding that only Makana can help him? And what part does Winslow have to play in this?

The scientist has gone to ground in Istanbul, and Makana quickly discovers that in this place nothing is as it appears, in a case that will see his past and present collide with fatal consequences.

Add: I now also notice that The Ghost Runner, the 3rd in the series, is only £1.80. Don't know if this is also a sale price, but it's not too bad...

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ghost-Runne...dp/B00HDFA91A/

Spoiler:
Quote:
It is 2002 and as tanks roll into the West Bank and the reverberations of 9/11 echo across the globe, tensions are running high on Cairo's streets. Private Investigator Makana, in exile from his native Sudan and increasingly haunted by memories of the wife and daughter he lost, is shaken out of his grief when a routine surveillance job leads him to the horrific murder of a teenage girl.

Seeking answers, he travels to Siwa, an oasis town on the edge of the great Sahara desert, where the law seems disturbingly far away. As violence follows him through the twisting, sand-blown streets and an old enemy lurks in the shadows, Makana discovers that the truth can be as deadly and as changeable as the desert beneath his feet
