Mange tak
And so, a puzzle: A Buddhist monk begins walking up a mountain at dawn one day. He reaches the summit at sunset, meditates at the top for several days until one dawn when he begins to walk back to the foot of the mountain, which he reaches at sunset. Making no assumptions about his starting or stopping or about his pace during the trips, can you prove that there is a place on the path which he occupies at precisely the same time of day on the two separate journeys. The solution to this is a very famous example of conceptual blending...if that helps. |

sounds good, but TGS said "the path" not 'his path'
I wonder if it makes a difference. Javed you may be correct! |

I think you are on the right track with this...there is not enough information to prove it other than by demonstration...diagrammatic thinking...

If there is only one track, and the monk uses it both ways, then there has to be a point along that track where the two (one imaginary) monks would pass. If speed(same uphill as down) rest stops etc were not an option, then the point has to exist at the middle point, but how to prove it
Would it be at midday? It seems to take all the daylight hours to complete the journey. We could imagine two suns rising, travelling, and setting. At what point would they pass? Methinks the time has come for TGS to post a full and rational explanation. please! |
