Q: Adding/merging duplicate book?

Hi folks!
I have a number of books in various formats, often in crappy PDF conversions. It so happens I got hold of a load of better versions of some books.
How can I add them in a way that they are not a separate duplicate book, but instead merged with the older record as just an other format?

If you've got a better version of a format, just drag the new file over the book's cover (in the book's info panel). Calibre will replace the older file with the newer.

You can also do it from the book's metadata window, but that's slower.

EDIT: Of course, don't forget to BACK UP. Backups are good, backups are the life. Have you backed up today? Do you know where your backups are? Etc.

Or add all the books, then merge the book records. the Find Duplicates plugin might be helpful in sorting those out.

Choose overwrite existing formats in automerge dropdown
