Good news for the self pubbers.Kobo sure is trying. Getting a big Japanese multinational as a parent does help.

I think the KDP select is the way to go. I mean you don't have to purchase books before reading, you just have to subscribe to the library. If this library contained all books, or at least most of those I want or want to read in the future I would definitely pay the admission fee of 79 dollars per annum.

So what about those of us who are already in Kobo thru Smashwords or BookieJar?

It doesn't change much for those reaching Kobo through Smashwords. You can continue to use Smashwords or switch over to using Kobo direct. I think there will be some perks to going direct, especially for making things free whenever you want without waiting for it to filter through Smashwords' channel distribution. But overall, it doesn't have to change things for you!
But glad to see other places reaching out to self-publishers! |

It's good to see that other places are trying to get some self-publishing action.
