Mansfield, Katherine: The Dove's Nest and Other Stories

Katherine Mansfield was born near Wellington, New Zealand, in 1888, the third of four surviving daughters of middle class parents. Her only brother was eight years younger. In 1901 she began the first of many relationships with men and women, and made the first of several visits to England and Europe in 1903. During the later visits she met D.H. Lawrence, Bertrand Russell, Lytton Strachey, and Virgina Woolf. In 1918 she was diagnosed with TB, and died near Fontainbleau in France in 1923.

The Doves' Nest and Other Stories was published in 1923, and contains six completed and 15 uncompleted short stories. They include The Doll's House, Honeymoon, A Cup of Tea, Taking the Veil, The Fly, The Canary, A Married Man's Story, The Dove's Nest, Six Years After, Daphne, Father and the Girls, All Serene, A Bad Idea, A Man and His Dog, Such a Sweet Old Lady, Honesty, Susannah, Second Violin, Mr and Mrs Williams, Weak Heart, and Widowed.

The source text was taken from The New Zealand Electronic Text Collection, and was checked against the 1923 Alfred A Knopf edition at https://archive.org/details/dovesnestotherst00mans. I have silently corrected typos, curled quotes, replaced italics and diacritics, used British English, and made changes to spelling and hyphenation using oxforddictionaries.com.
