Nook Teardown
In addition to nook Rooted, nookDevs.com have a Teardown page, with more photos and details of the hardware. The CPU is a Samsung S3C6410 (unspecified clock speed), which is new for dedicated Readers, but the EInk display controller isn't listed.

Based on the BogoMIPS, this is running at 667MHz. The same processor and clock speed as in the SmartQ 5 and 7.

You are generalising.
VMs can be slow - bad software can also be slow. Java isn't the only VM platform out - .NET comes to mind ... I've seen some very fast Java solutions in my time. A large chunk of mission critical enterprise applications and systems run on JVM, very fast and very stable. |

Are you really trying to convince me that the well-written code that needs to be translated to the object code in VM is as fast as the actual object code? |

Wait, so you slap him for generalizing and then you do it? ![]() Many systems are running JAVA code now and running it well. As a JAVA programmer I can attest to this. Even the military is using it on... wait for it... MISSION CRITICAL SYSTEMS! ![]() ![]() |

This argument has been around for donkey years. There is no substitute for good design and good software engineering. You can cut your code in VI editor using nothing but 1's and 0's, and have it leak memory like a sieve and run like a three legged dog. At the same time I have Java apps running on my Nokia phone which are just fine. To paraphrase the old NRA motto "Java doesn't make programs slow, programmers do" ![]() Cheers! PS: Ah, I did dig that "Mission Critical Systems" hole pretty deep didn't I ![]() |
