I found that the most difficult part was to crack the Kindle open. After that, once you manage to hold the pins in place with foam and tape, it's just a matter of following instructions. |

Hey
I have a PW2 that was previously jailbroken, never reset. I've been separated with it for a while and to my surprise, when I booted it back up, the thing had done an update at some point to 5.8.10 blasting the custom apps. You can still see some of the of remains in the directory. I've been reading back up on what's happening and I'm left confused if a previously jailbroken system can be rebroken into? Will be sad if not but, dem the breaks eh? https://imgur.com/a/WgdSJ1U |

Hi. I have a PW2, jailbroken, with just KUAL and the cover hack installed. Firmware version is 5.8.1. It is working fine, but I was wondering if there would be benefits to upgrading the firmware to the latest version, 5.9.7, if that is advisable, and the best way to do that to retain the jailbreak. I am not sure if there are perks to doing this, if it could be done, if it should be done, and how to do it. Some guidance would be appreciated. I scanned the recent pages of this thread and got confused.

and custom fonts in 5.9.6. If you don't care about font customization, you might as well stick with your current firmware. |

I have a Paperwhite 2 which has firmware 5.4.5.1, and I'm trying to jailbreak it. I've been trying to follow the instructions I found here:
https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/5_x_Jailbreak but unfortunately any bin files I put on it dissappear before I'm able to 'update my kindle' err, oops, it just appeared as an option (black rather than greyed out, but I got a 007 error. I'm keen on this for added configuration options. Thanks in advance. EDIT - I got an Update Error 4 when trying to update I am running linux on my home system, so can probably shell into my PW2 if needed, though I'd prefer not to. YES! Okay, sorry for all the questions, but I got it worked out. I did the old 1.14 jailbreak (but I don't think it worked). Then I downgraded to 5.4.3.2. Then I did the 1.14 jailbreak again (and it worked, I got ***jailbreak*** written at the bottom). To check that it's worked I have installed KUAL - yay! Jailbroken. PaperWhite 3 5.9.6.1
I have a PaperWhite 3 on 5.9.6.1. I have just bought it and I have turned it on, but I haven't connected it to wifi.
Before buying it I think I read somewhere that if you don't connect to wifi you can downgrade and then jailbreak it but can't find that thread anymore. Any way to jailbreak this without via software rather than via the serial port method? Thanks! |

Installed the latest update 5.10.1.1 for my Voyage.
After that I tried to install the packages (kual, usbnet, python, mkk) with MrPi (;log mrpi), as I always have successfuly done after the last few updates. But this time it does not install correct. The screen gets blank for a few seconds and then the device reboots. I also installed the hotfix package again, but it doesn't helped. All packages are the latest snapshots. The following spoiler contains mrinstaller.log Spoiler:
Can I fix it, or is it an issue related to the latest kindle firmware? Thanks! |

Huh. That's the basic "I failed to run kindletool" error message, which is definitely weird.
You could try reinstalling MRPI from the snapshots, maybe? |

... or KindleTool is incompatible with this brand-new fw (or to be more precise: Lab126 has deliberately made this becoming so :-( ...)
