I just got this in my email inbox. Note that the promotion is targeted.

The reason that I'm posting it, is that you need to check your email soon to see if you are a "winner"--Some of you may not be accustomed to checking your email very often. You must click on an "Activate" button, in the email message, by Sept. 5, to be eligible. Why Amazon sent this to me today, August 30, 2019, 3 days after the promotion started on August 27, is anyone's guess.

This is something that I, personally, have not seen in an Amazon promotion before, that I remember. It's sweet: "Eligible purchases made before activation still count!" I think that I have made $15 in purchases since the promotion start date, so according to this statement, it looks like I'm already set to get the $4 credit. WooHoo!

They had something almost exactly like this not too long ago. (Six months-one year ago.)

I took advantage of it and saved almost 20%.

On the promotion you posted, I too got the same promotion! We are sooo special.

But Audible didn't have the chutzpah to say something like, "you've been handpicked to participate in this promotion," or something to that effect. I actually got a mass mailing message in my email two or three months ago that actually used the word "handpicked!"

I am curious, though, about who does and doesn't get selected for these promotions. Someone said "algorithms," and that's about the best answer than I can think of, too. I know that I am not handpicked, that's for sure.

The answer is algorithms, but given the way all the tech companies act about their algorithms, it's basically their version of saying "magic." In theory algorithms are logical and sensible, but the way they treat them they're black boxes that very, very few people understand. So just think of it as magic, that's accurate enough.

I didn't get an email, but I got it in the Amazon shopping app. I saw something interesting in the FAQ:

Which Kindle eBooks count towards the offer?

Any Kindle eBook that you purchase on Amazon.com during the offer period will count. Activation can occur at any time during the offer period. Pre-orders are excluded from this offer.

So does this mean that you can't purchase on an Amazon device? I doubt it, but that's what it says.
