Windows 10 (1809 build) has been the minimum for both PageEdit and Sigil since the 2.0.0 versions of both.

PageEdit not opening
Hello,
I've just updated Sigil and PageEdit on my Mac to v 2.0.2 The 'open external editor' button seems to have stopped working properly. If I quite PageEdit it does work. But after saving and closing the edit window I then have to quit PageEdit to open a different page. The previous version was fine. Thanks. |

What do you exactly mean by open a different page? If on Sigil you launch PageEdit using the XEditor button, it passes along the opf to PageEdit so that you then use the PageEdit icon arrow keys (or pulldown menu) to quickly change to any other xhtml file in the epub directly in PageEdit.
Once you have made all of your changes to any xhtml page and saved them you shoukd then close out and exit PageEdit. That is how it has always worked. So which steps of the process described fail for you? Are you by chance just editing one page and then closing instead of saving it, never navigating to other pages directly in PageEdit, and never fully quitting out of PageEdit? If you can supply an exact sequence of steps (which icon used, which menu used, etc) that worked in recent previous versions of PageEdit (1.9.x or 2.0) that no longer works in PageEdit 2.0.2, I would be happy to look into it. |

I did some playing around as this code has really not changed much at all in years.
I found that the only real change was made by Apple as its /usr/bin/open command has changed how it works. If an app is already open it will no longer pass the arguments (--args) passed to it, and it will no longer let you set new env vars (--env NAME=value) (again if the program is the already open). So this prevents Sigil's XEditor from being able to run a new file on an already running instance of PageEdit. It even clobbers all fragments if we try to use /usr/bin/open with a file:/// url. So no arguments get processed, no new env vars and no url fragments when the app is already running. This means Sigil with its XEditor can not open a new instance unless the older PageEdit instance is no longer running (i.e. you must use Quit to close PageEdit first). The only workaround is to change PageEdit to automatically quit when the last window is closed, but this is very un-mac-like so I am loathe to do that. So you will need to use Quit when closing out of PageEdit given the changes to how /usr/bin/open now works in later versions of macOS. |
