It's also 99 cents at Amazon US.

EReaderIQ has it at $3.99 in May 2018 so I'm assuming this it is a sale price here too.

I hope the Thieves' World anthologies start being released, I haven't been able to find them digitally. I've assumed that with so many authors that the rights are kind of wonky.

Two JRR Tolkien titles are $2.99 as part of the US Kindle Daily Deal, matched at Kobo US.

Beren and Lúthien
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Beren-Lúthien...dp/B01MG2HOWD/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/beren-and-luthien-1
Spoiler:
Quote:
“A good introduction to LOTR fans nervous about taking on The Silmarillion, and also gives longtime fans a fascinating look at the Tolkiens’ myth-making process.”—EntertainmentWeekly.com

“A beautiful book.”—San Antonio Express-News

“With eloquence and diligence and care, the son reconstructs and retraces the father’s journey, pursuing the tale through draft after draft as Tolkien pursued his vision of Middle-earth.”—NPR.org

The epic tale of Beren and Lúthien became an essential element in the evolution of The Silmarillion, the myths and legends of J.R.R. Tolkien’s First Age of the World. Always key to the story is the fate that shadowed their love: Beren was a mortal man, Lúthien an immortal Elf. Her father, a great Elvish lord, imposed on Beren an impossible task before he might wed Lúthien: to rob the greatest of all evil beings, Melkor, of a Silmaril.

Painstakingly restored from Tolkien’s manuscripts and presented for the first time as a continuous and standalone story, Beren and Lúthien reunites fans of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings with Elves and Men, along with the rich landscape and creatures unique to Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Christopher Tolkien tells the story in his father’s own words by giving its original form as well as prose and verse passages from later texts that illustrate the narrative as it changed.

The Children of Húrin
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Children-Húri...dp/B007978NKG/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...ren-of-hurin-1
Spoiler:
Quote:
The Children of Húrin is the first complete book by J.R.R.Tolkien since the 1977 publication of The Silmarillion. Six thousand years before the One Ring is destroyed, Middle-earth lies under the shadow of the Dark Lord Morgoth. The greatest warriors among elves and men have perished, and all is in darkness and despair. But a deadly new leader rises, Túrin, son of Húrin, and with his grim band of outlaws begins to turn the tide in the war for Middle-earth -- awaiting the day he confronts his destiny and the deadly curse laid upon him.

The paperback edition of The Children of Húrin includes eight color paintings by Alan Lee and a black-and-white map.

As it happens, last night I dug out my copy of the Baen release which included both endings and prompted readers to vote on which one should be used going forward. I’m going to use that to ensure that my ecopy of Podkayne includes both versions.

I also discovered my ancient, polybagged copy of The Worlds of Robert A. Heinlein in the same cache. I’m rather tempted to scan its cover and reassemble the volume as an ebook, just to have it. As I recall, Expanded Universe (inexplicably published as two ebooks) contains everything in Worlds, so it ought to be a fairly simple matter of assembling the proper bits in the correct order. I wish it were as easy to get an ecopy of The Number of the Beast, another book in that cache, but apparently not.

I was doing some cleaning in the basement a few years back and found my If magazines from 1962-63 in which Podkayne of Mars was serialized. Sadly, the condition was best described as pathetic -- spending 45 years jammed in a cardboard box is probably not recommended as an archival storage method.

I think Tor did two freebies this month, but I missed the other while I was on vacation.

If anyone is a Brian Jacques' Redwall fan, the first three, and #17 and #21 are on sale for $1.99 at Amazon and Kobo, and probably every other US retailer.
