Once again, my goal is to buy fewer books than I read.
Last year I managed to reduce my TBR pile by 53 books! I start 2023 with 703 books on my TBR pile. Books removed from TBR Read and Reading

Ancient World, Germany at War, Victorian, SG Challenge
I've not been hitting my goals in the past few years, so I’ve decided it’s time for a new strategy. I’ve identified the two areas that are speaking to me right now, so I’m just going to see how it goes. The only fixed goal is to participate in the MR/StoryGraph challenge with the aim of reducing my GR WTR list. As always, I’ll set a benchmark of reading 120 books. (I don’t have a problem hitting this, so it’s not a goal per se.). Also as always, I’ll link to the GR account for my various themes as I’m too lazy to list books twice.

Completed: October 19th, read 12,000 pages in 2023
I kept the 12,000 page goal that I had used the last couple years; it seems about right for my current needs. Like last year, I read a lot more short stories from podcasts and other audiobooks in general this year. I was way behind until August when I finally got on track by rereading several books. In October I had a long, solo, trip and managed to read three long books to wrap up my goal. I didn't even realize it till a few days later.
Page Goal:: Read 12,000 Pages in 2023. Status as of December 31: 15,244 pages read, 65 books/short stories completed. As usual, I like to look at what years I've been reading. I have completed books from 143 different years, 42 different years read this year of which 6 were new to me. I've included a couple different charts showing who they are distributed. The New Authors chart is also interesting - my "legacy" authors (authors I started reading before 2011) are holding steady at around 25% of the books I read. My "was new authors" (authors first read after 2011 but not this year) is slowly growing, and my "new authors" is slowly shrinking. Although this is by percentage - I've been between 45% and 60% since 2013 - so 3 really high years (>70%) then levelled off afterwards. This shows how quickly I'm finding new "favorite" authors and adding them to my group of "will re-read" and "must read" authors. The last chart I thought I'd include is a chart showing the percentage I read of several genres. As shown, I mostly read science fiction and fantasy (fairly even distribution) and then everything else is about 1/3 of what I read. It's been consistent this way since the first couple years I started tracking. Before I started tracking, I was probably 60% Fantasy, 30% Thrillers (like Clancy or WEB Griffin), and 10% everything else. I hadn't really gotten into Science Fiction yet. Totals
