Battery Life question
I will be getting an iPad for my 4 yr old son as a communication device in the next couple months, and I was curious about the battery life of this.
He can't talk, and in his speech therapy he's been using the iPad quite well for communication. So it might be something that will be attached at the hip for him. Anyone had any experience using it in this way? edit: I am soooo jealous of him...I want one LOL. |

I have never used it like that but if I use my ipad most of the day, reading or surfing the net, I need to charge it by the time the evening comes around. It takes a lot of juice to keep that screen going most of the day so perhaps you would need to have a plug handy for him to plug it in when not using it... and make sure he charges it while he sleeps.

The specs are 10 hours. This is pretty realistic in my experience.

Get the Apple Care Plus plan. It is $100 but allows you to replace the IPad for $50 a pop twice in case of accidental breakage. I am suggesting this because I can see a 4 year old, no matter how careful, having an accident or two and I am sure you would prefer to save money on replacing the IPad if needed.

It's worth checking your home insurance first though, ours covers accidental damage for items like ipads/iphones and other similar value items.
Battery wise, I've used mine to watch several hours of video on a flight from the UK to the US with battery to spare. You may find it drains quicker if he's using games on it though, but for most app usage you'll likely end up just needing to charge it overnight and take the odd opportunity to top it up during dinner time for example |

Apple is usually quite honest when it comes to battery specifications, and I got 10 hours as advertised with both my iPad and iPad 2.

Thanks everyone!!
Since we got a discount at Wal-Mart (his mom's father works there and gets 10% off), we ended up getting the warranty through them. Appreciate the feedback on the battery! |
