HanLin Forum Icon Change Suggestion

Hi there!

I hope here is the right place for this thread.

I read in MR for more than a year now, and I have always wondered, why is there a V8 icon on the Hanlin Forum. Not a problem really, but having the white V8 on a light blue background I always seem to skip over the forum, not seeing it. In 90% of the time I end up scrolling back up.
And since I had nothing better to do today, I made a few icons, which might look better as the present. They are also from V3 (BeBook actually), since almost all people have a V3 or V5 as a hardware configuration. What do you think?

Ummm ok.. how about none of the above? LOL! I like the change from dark to light on the casing, makes it stand out much more, but not the text on the screen part.

p.s. Not to be picky or anything, but there's a typo in your animation - "Moblie Read" in green?

Are there other Hanlin devices? If there are you just can't put up just a V3 picture.

Well, you will have to put up a picture of some special device eventually. Mind you, Bookeen, Amazon, Hanlin, Pocketbook all offer a range of different devices now. (And Astak is, as far as i remember, only selling different rebranded Hanlins and the Cybook. Nevertheless I think it's o.k. that there is the extra forum for Astak.) The thought behind LCF's initiative may also be that by now the most widely used device by the manufacturer hanlin is the V3 and not the old V8.

So I do sympathize somewhat with his initiative, but it think we can well leave it as it is at present.

I hope you mean the opposite (light --> dark).

The text inside. Well at the beginning I wanted something readable. And with an 36x36 px icon you don't have much room for text. That's how the MR and V3 came to life. Now, as time passes I'm not so sure it's such a good idea to have readable text on the screen. I was inspired by yvanleterrible's avatar. And then I had to squeeze it in 20x25 px screen. It's neither fish nor fowl now.
So leaving the screen blank or with some default picture (LBooks book pile, the coffee cup from Hanlin/LBook, etc.) on it sound like the better idea.

The typo. Thanks - I (obviously) missed it.

But I have a free advice to offer now: Don't make animations at 4 a.m.! Or at least don’t type any words with more than 3 characters.

Like beachwanderer says, there are V3 and V5 on the market now (both looking almost identical). The 10" should also come... someday. I think the picture is fine, but the V3 "logo" might not be appropriate.

At some stage maybe we're going to have to lose the icons, especially as new models come along...

I mean look at the Kindle, that's come a long way since it was once a small bunch of wood for lighting a fire ...

Yep. I wouldn't know it was a rose if it didn't say it in the description. If it doesn't seem right, I don't mind replacing it with one of the other images LCF has created for us.
