CBR > PDF shrinkage

Hi Everyone,

I've been using Calibre for a while, successfully converting EPUB into MOBI for my Kindles.

However, I am having problems converitng CBR [Comic Book] into PDF.

I am getting a large e-ink tablet soon, and thought I might see what CBR files look like on it (it is PDF-only).

But the conversion is giving me trouble.

The converted PDF looks good at first. For the first 1/3rd to 1/2 of the document, the CBR pages have been converted 1-to-1 into PDF pages.

However, after that point, as you go through the document, the comic images on the PDF pages become progressively smaller, until each one is taking up 1/4 of a page or less.

Does anyone know why the CBR images shrink in the outputted PDF after a certain point in the document? I am puzzled.

I have set the "input profile" as "Default Input Profile," which Calibre lists as 1600x1200, and the "output profile" as "Tablet" [unlimited pixels.]

What I am trying to do is get the CBR files exported as A4 or Legal-sized PDF documents, of maximum possible resolution.

It is a comic book, full colour, full page spread.

Now, the problem is, as I indicated earlier, that the converted PDF images of the comic book pages become progressively smaller, as if the image dimensions are being reduced by 1/2 each time.

Pages 1-4 are okay, although diminishing slightly in size, but then the real shrinkage starts in earnest.

3. The output file is 52 MB, so I can't upload it here. But here is an image from Page 53, where you can see the problem.

4. Description of problem: See first paragraph. The file converts without error messages, but you can see from the image in [3] that the comic pages become much too small as the document progresses.

5. I chose the "Tablet" output profile during the conversion, but all other settings were default.

A screenshot doesn't help. I need access to the CBZ file in question, if you cannot attach it here, then open a bug report and attach it there.

Okay, I have created a bug report in the calibre bug tracker. It is titled the same as this thread:

Kovid has notified me that he has identified and solved the bug, and that the fix will be included in the upcoming update of Calibre.

I can confirm that the bug has been fixed, at least for me.

I downloaded the very latest build available from the Calibre website. The recursive shrinking of converted CBR/CBZ images no longer occurs. They are reproduced with correct proportions.

Be sure to use the latest build of Calibre if you want to rectify this problem.

However, I am having problems converitng CBR [Comic Book] into PDF. I am getting a large e-ink tablet soon, and thought I might see what CBR files look like on it (it is PDF-only). But the conversion is giving me trouble. The converted PDF looks good at first. For the first 1/3rd to 1/2 of the document, the CBR pages have been converted 1-to-1 into PDF pages. However, after that point, as you go through the document, the comic images on the PDF pages become progressively smaller, until each one is taking up 1/4 of a page or less. Does anyone know why the CBR images shrink in the outputted PDF after a certain point in the document? I am puzzled. I have set the "input profile" as "Default Input Profile," which Calibre lists as 1600x1200, and the "output profile" as "Tablet" [unlimited pixels.] What I am trying to do is get the CBR files exported as A4 or Legal-sized PDF documents, of maximum possible resolution.
