Not showing battery drainage.
So I came back to Kobo for the mini, because I wanted a small, dedicated ereader and the price-point is amazing right now. I've had it for a week, and I love it. Absolutely love it. But I noticed something. In that entire week, the battery has not shown any discharge, but the kobo has obviously run out of battery, since it just turned off until I plugged it in. I would have plugged it in earlier if I had known that it wasn't staying charged, but I'm used to looking at a battery meter that means something. Is this a bug or is something wrong with my kobo?

On my Mini the battery meter becomes more clear as the battery level is getting lower. Also, when viewing the top bar menu, it's possible to see the battery remaining percentage.
It's the usual Mini behaviour. If your Mini doesn't display those two things, then I believe there must be something not right with your unit. Is it a new one? |

Brand new. I'll keep an eye on it for another couple of days of heavy use, I suppose.

I'm pretty sure my Mini's battery meter lowers with usage.

I've never noticed any problems with my battery meter. If I were you, I'd keep an eye on it. I'm assuming if it's a brand new device that it's on the latest firmware, so unless there's a bug in that firmware, it could be a device issue.

Not much voltage difference as these type batteries are discharged until it is almost fully discharged. It can take at least one discharge cycle to indicate realistic battery level as battery discharges. Use of wifi, and sorting books just put into library will discharge battery faster.

Not to kibitz, but you did fully charge it when you got it, before you started using it. You didn't just assume it was charged properly because it looked good on the meter...
