Kindle Keyboard B008 locking up
Hi
I have a kindle keyboard B008 ver with firmware 3.3 installed and it keeps locking up I have tried the factory reset in the menu system and the power switch for 20 sec reset but it still keeps locking up. So the image is corrupt and needs replacing so I have read the thread called K3noobdebrickatk but the file link to (link deleted) is dead gitbrew is down and out ???. So cyjeff kindly put the file in is dropbox (link deleted) but the file is corrupt crc error. Going round in circles here So PLEASE can someone send me a link to these files so I can restore the image so it works again thanks. geekmaster has done a post on getkernel "Use this script to make backup copies of kernel images from an mmcblk0.img backup file, or directly from the mmc device. You can flash these images with fastboot." If this is a way to extract the image file from a update file a tutorial will help thanks Or will I have to wait for firmware 3.4 to come out and will this overwrite the faulty linux software giving me a headache Links to copyrighted software deleted by moderator Last edited by HarryT; 08-26-2012 at 01:04 PM. |

I just charged my "new-in-box" K3-wifi last night, and the screen changed from the factory/shipping screen to the welcome screen. Now to make some "forensic images" from it.
Amazon reps said during a telephone conversation that it "should be fine" to distribute kindle firmware images for "repair purposes", but they did not follow that up with written permission as I had requested. As long as we use these forensic images to do more good than harm we should be fine. As an extra precaution, we do not link directly to firmware images from MobileRead posts. Instead, we only link to an external text file that contains a list of URLs. As you can see in the "simple debricking" first post, we have helped a lot of people who may otherwise have returned their kindles to amazon, and amazon is aware of that, which is why we can continue to help people debrick their kindles here. We should soon have "factory fresh" firmware for the K3. Last edited by geekmaster; 08-19-2012 at 11:18 AM. |

I think you've jumped to conclusions a bit hasty and did not read the thread geekmaster mentioned, right? You should read the sticky recovery thread in the developer's board and decide if you understand the procedure to re-vive a (software) broken Kindle 3.
As geekmaster, I'm not sure about how you would tackle "cloning", especially since you do not mention ATK, which would (on Windows, now there's also k3flasher on Linux) be the only way to produce a real dump. Dumping the user partition would only make sense for document backup, and a simple copy would probably make more sense than a partition image. It's different for the kernel (not even in a partition) and the root partition. |

There is a new version 1.4 of the getkernels script. In some cases, the older version 1.3 of getkernels could dump a kernel image that could be up to 64 bytes short in length (truncated if adding the 64-byte header length wrapped it into another 1024-byte block). This was fixed in 1.4.
The v3.0.2 images I added to the pastebin were dumped with k3flasher. |

Is your kindle in USB downloader mode? Does Windows recognize the device in that mode? What identification for the device is displayed in Windows' device manager? You did install the drivers coming with ATK, right? Please also remove the links from your post.
And you might want to continue the discussion in the developers' board, in the ATK recovery thread. That way, others can learn from your experiences. 1:1 support in a dedicated thread will just clutter the board here. |
