Forevermore there appeared a tiny gap on the bottom side of the bezel because I only applied the tape to the sides. After cleaning the edges with alcohol I am quite happy with the result. I actually went to Chapters this morning and compared my unit with their demo. Granted they have bright lights but I did not notice any difference in screen brightness. I am thinking the lack of leak spots (I had 5 bright spots) gave me the illusion of darker screen. I was able to read comfortably in complete dark with both settings at 30% and in outdoors with 50% light the screen looks like paper. Again it is easy to mess up the device so like I said unless one can afford to brake and lose warranty, shouldn't do it. |

The thing is, this doesn't look like it should be a hard fix with changes in manufacturing. Kobo needs to 1) Change their manufacturing procedure so the bleed doesn't happen and, 2) Offer to replace defective units with good ones. It's ridiculous that new Clara owners are having to find ways to fix the defects on their brand new Claras. |

You are looking at the naked screen the bezel removed. Any lights you see outside of the viewing area is normal. Before the black marker fix I had 5 large bright patches within the viewing area. There are no more visible light bleeds after reassembling the unit. As you can see in the next picture. |

Just to be more precise about the my post #615 the marker was applied to the
tiny indentation between the glass and the material under it (red arrow). The black strings you see on the surface (actually under) the glass are from factory. |

I hope so too. When I first tried the tape fix I noticed the problem is at the side of the glass not on the surface. Somehow the light is bouncing out of the side and back in, creating the bright spots. So black marker fixed the light bounce.
This should be an easy fix during the manufacturing process. |

Yes I have written a very lengthy email to feedback@kobo.com and
did include a link to this thread and relevant post numbers. |

Edit: Atilla pointed out that this was after the fix and before the reassembly. Which means I still can't think of a photo that actually demonstrates the problem. Last edited by davidfor; 06-28-2018 at 08:08 PM. |

Oh. The picture was pretty dark, I didn't realize it was out of its case. I thought that looked pretty terrible. Sorry for missing this important detail.
