Galsworthy, John: End of the Chapter. v1, 21 Nov 2010
John Galsworthy (1867-1933) devoted virtually his entire professional career to creating a fictional but entirely representative family of propertied Victorians: the Forsytes. He made their lives and times, loves and losses, fortunes and deaths so real that readers accused him of including as characters in his drama real individuals whom they knew. He was the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1932.
This is the third trilogy of "The Forsyte Chronicles", the first being "The Forsyte Saga" and the second "A Modern Comedy". It contains three novels: A Maid in Waiting Flowering Wilderness Over the River The story in this trilogy is set in the early 1930's (which is when it was written), and only loosely related with the Forsyte family. The main characters are the Charwells, cousins of Fleur's husband, and themes like love, marriage and divorce, and the role of women and "morals", are central to the books. The text has been taken from the eBooks@Adelaide site, but I have proofread the whole book (many corrections done, checking against available scans when possible), added curly quotes, italics, etc. This upload is dedicated to Patricia Clark, I only wish she could enjoy it.
