Individual icon per format in format viewer
Someone must have come up with this idea before me. Alas, a quickish search did not turn up potential leads, so if I overlooked a thread or a post, please point me in the right direction.
Fiddling with the format browser I thought it would be nice if it was possible to fit an epub icon against epub files, a doc icon against doc files etc. etc. for mobi, pdf and so forth. I found out that this apparently is not possible as Calibre uses the same icon for all formats and cannot handle individual icons per format. Does anyone know of a fix? |

So you want to be able to right-click in the tags browser and give different entries within a category individual icons? In this case, different icons for each entry in the "formats" category.
It would seem to be impossible. Try suggesting it as an enhancement request (or perhaps Kovid will spot it here). |

There are format icons in the Metadata edit window.
You can use the Tag browser (or hand code a search) to select just books that have a specific format. |

Thanks for the fix! Looks great!
@McGonigle Just update to the next version of calibre and this will be fixed. The formats category will automatically use the format icons which appear in other areas of the calibre GUI. (Hopefully that will be this Friday, depending on whether or not the Qt5 update is judged stable enough. There is a beta here where Friday's update will show up, otherwise.) |

Thank you! I'm quite speechless, and also quite clueless I'm afraid. What do I do with the code, where do I put it please?

eschwartz: Thanks for the reply, seems I didn't refresh my browser before asking, or you are perhaps a mindreader.
![]() I'm currently on the version 2 betas so I'll have the fix friday then. Superb! Thank you again Kovid! ![]() |

When too many letters in one word go into a post, it gets split up randomly, once it makes its way into the page. A not-so-very-well-known error.
One solution (for filepaths which often exceed the mysterious threshold) is to use the [CODE][/CODE] tags, which do not suffer from this. |

Exploring the change, I have discovered that not only will it not show for new mimetypes, but, if the empty folder "mimetypes" appears in %calibreconfig%/resources/images/ then all mimetype images disappear -- from every part of the GUI.
![]() Adding in an alternative for any default mimetype will cause that to appear as applicable. |

@e..z - Yes, that's what I found too. But if you copy the all supplied mime type images from the install directory to the configuration directory that problem is solved, however any additional mime type images are not recognised. Nor are they recognised if you put them in the (slap on wrist) install directory

This should do the trick: https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...cb6f8a4525654d
I haven't tested it, I leave that as an exercise to the reader |

*Places wmv.png and epub.png in the mimetypes folder. (same image)*
Code:
[eschwartz@arch ~/git/calibre]$ git pull upstream master [eschwartz@arch ~/git/calibre]$ git log | head -n 5 commit 64d37eae4088de8e88830993a4cb6f8a4525654d Author: Kovid Goyal <kovid@kovidgoyal.net> Date: Mon Aug 18 09:00:03 2014 +0530 Allow users to add extra mimetype icons by placing appropriately named image files in the resources/mimetypes override directory [eschwartz@arch ~/git/calibre]$ calibre & WMV does not. All other formats also do not have their default images. Last edited by eschwartz; 08-18-2014 at 12:10 AM. |
