OK, i meant JB and JBL - sorry for my mistype! I was previously looking at the Pocketbooks before moving on over to the JetBooks...
I know, i know... "you are getting an ereader to read, not listen" ... however my "reading" pleasure is both visual and audio so i like both formats for different times (i listen to audiobooks while i knit or do housework). so please bear with me, and any info you can provide is so greatly appreciated. ![]() I know JB has an "mp3 player" but that is all the info they offer on the manual/internet, so a few questions for you expert users out there: 1. does the file management let you make subfolders in your music/audiobook folders so that you can put all of one audiobook (i.e., 10 files) in one folder instead of having all your music/audio in one lumped together folder. 2. What is the mp3 player? Does it read anything else like a wma? 3. Does the mp3 player "bookmark" the audiobook so you can restart where you left off? i have decided i don't need color, i want a better screen than that. i have decided i don't need wifi or 3g, as i buy/borrow in advance anyway. i just need a good ereader that will let me borrow BOTH ebooks and audiobooks from the library... and i know all the DRM issues, so lets not bring that up here as it just confuses the matter even more... ![]() Last edited by luv2knit; 01-04-2011 at 03:05 PM. |

luv2knit, the jetBook Lite does not have audio capability.
I'll let someone who has a jetBook tell you of his experience with its mp3 playing. |

As an ex military man, I know that acronyms can come in handy, but you have to get them right.
Here at MobileRead (MR) I would have to guess the "PB" would be the PocketBook reader, and "PBL" might be a Pocketbook Lite, if one exists. In this "Ectaco jetBook" forum we talk about the Jetbook (JB) and the Jetbook Lite (JBL). Luck; Ken |

thanks for pointing that out, i am in the right place but accidentally mistyped. i did mean the jetbook and jetbooklite, and just got a little wonky with my typing... probably also because i spent all day sunday thinking about the pocketbook iq before realizing i just really want a b/w reader...
anyway, a gal in the piney woods of texas thanks ya! i edited my message, but alas the title stays the original so hopefully all you experienced forum stalkers will just realize you have another newbie amongst the bunch and just shake your head and grimace as you answer my plea for assistance. |

Welcome. I have the JBL, so I can't help you out with your specific questions. I use a separate device, the Sansa Clip+ for audio books--it plays mp3 and wma files and does a nice job.

Quote:
1. You can put audio files into subfolders (audio/author/books/chapters). 2. Will only play mp3. This means that when you borrow audio books from the library, you will have to convert to mp3 (after removing the drm). 3. I can't remember whether you can bookmark audiobooks because I gave up on the mp3 feature within a few minutes. Since there are no speakers, you have to listen to audio books with headphones (not very comfortable because you can't really move around. The jetbook is too big to put into your pocket). I suggest using your normal mp3 player for audiobooks. Cheers Last edited by hiaig; 01-04-2011 at 04:31 PM. |

Recent JetBook Lite owner here, but also a longtime owner of multiple MP3 players. The added benefit of listening on an MP3 player is that if I have to put the "book" down for a minute I can keep the audio going.
If you decide to go this route you can also look for "podcast" functionality. I have a Sansa Clip (no Plus) and audio files saved as podcasts pick up where you leave off. But I can't say if it handles DRMed audio books -- I only listen to MP3s. |

I have a Jetbook and use the MP3 player frequently. It does allow you put your audio books in folders of your choice by name or author and subdirectories if so desired. It will continously play all the mp3 tracks in that folder. It does NOT play WMA, but does remember where you left off in EACH audio folder started. I enjoy using it and do use it quite frequently. I knit alot and frequently listen to audiobooks while doing this as I can't quite knit and read.(LOL)

The Aluratek Libre Pro, which is similar to the JBL, does include a basic MP3 player. I gave one to my mom but haven't done very much with the MP3 player. I know that it will only play MP3s, and only at a bit rate of 128 kps or less (it is possible to convert files from a higher bit rate using free software).

I can have music playing just about anywhere in the Man Cave so it is not such an issue
for semi-hermits such as myself. When I would be out and about I use a neat little 2GB clip type MP3 Player. I know some pretty macho knitters at the VA and come to think of it, a couple of them have a player plugged in most of the time. Luck; Ken |
