Irving, Washington: The Alhambra. (Illustrated) v1 18 December 2013

There really isn't a MobileRead category that suits this ebook - the tags I use in the metadata are travel, short stories, and history.

Washington Irving (1783-1859) was an American essayist, biographer, historian, and diplomat. He wrote biographies of Washington, Goldsmith, Columbus, and others, histories of the Moors in Spain and the Alhambra, an account of a survey of the interior of the US, and many other books. He helped to promote international copyright, at least partly because many of his works were published without much benefit to him. He was a friend or respected colleague of Sir Walter Scott, Lord Byron, Charles Dickens, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Herman Melville, and was perhaps the first American writer to become famous in England and Europe and to make a living from his writing.

The Alhambra (also known as Tales of the Alhambra), 'A Series of Tales and Sketches of the Moors and Spaniards,' was written during a stay in Granada, and reflects his delight with the Granada and its people. It was published in 1832 with a revised edition in 1851. This version is the illustrated revised edition published by Thomas Y. Crowell in 1900, with the HTML source text from the University of Adelaide elibrary. I have corrected typos, modernised the punctuation and spelling, and added some scene breaks.

Edit: I have corrected an error in the content.opf file. Do please let me know if other errors are present so I can correct them.

In the OPF, you have these lines:

Code:
<meta name="cover" content="img1"/>
[...]
<item id="imgl" href="images/Cover.jpg" media-type="image/jpeg"/>
note, in red, img-one and img-ell.

Thanks so much, Jellby

This is so embarrassing; you've pointed this out before and I thought I'd fixed it in all the templates I use. I'll do some more work on it.

Edit: Fixed

I'm enjoying this one. I only knew Irving from the required reading in primary school (Headless Horseman, Rip Van Winkle). Thanks for broadening my horizons!

Thanks, GrannyGrump. After preparing this ebook I suggested to my wife that if we go on another overseas trip I'd like it to be Granada and the Alhambra. Washington Irving's delight in the place just shines through the book.
