Trying to view KePub (with all the KePub plugins installed) gives me an error in both 4.23 and 5.0.1. This is from 5.0.1.

Problem downgrading
Well, I got 5.0.1 to work - I thought. But no. The Kindle DeDRM tools do not work in new version yet. So, I gave up (never update when not forced and the old system works). I uninstalled version 5 and reinstalled version 4.8.
Then I started and tried to delete a book I had tried to import under version 5 form Kindle. Now, Version 6.8 fails doing this stating: SQLError: SQLError: No such module: fts5 Then I rebooted my PC, but to no avail. Same problem. Now, what do I do? Is the older versions no longer compatible with version 5? (then it shoudl be stated that once you upgrade you cannot downgrade, but others seem to have doen this without problems). What is going on, and how do I get back to my old 4.8 version with the DRM function working? I should mention that after downgrading, I can re-import the book again. Calibre keeps both the old and the new book. And the one imported with 4.8 can be converted like before. So, really my question is - how do I remove the first non-convertible book? As has been made very clear here at MR MANY, MANY times and is also mentioned explicitly on Alf's page. Anyone who took a minute to check either site would have known weeks ago that the current DeDRM plugins would not work with Calibre 5.

And as has happenend many, many ,many times, I, being a veteran It professional, did not adhere to my own advice, and just jumped on the upgrade, without looking. Price paid.
I downgraded to 4.2.3 - problem solved. Many thanks for all you help and sorry for having bothered you. Next time, I will.... :-) |

Back to version 4.23
Yes, I did the same thing, i.e. installed the new version without any reading about it - there went all my plugins (not many), including my DRM.
Removed Calibre, installed installed old DRM plugin - all is well again. |

If Windows 10, you shouldn't have lost plugins or anything else when you did a re-install of a previous version (uninstall current, install previous). That assumes you use Windows tools to do both - some third party tools, particularly uninstallers, remove stuff they shouldn't. Quote:

1) My main installation is calibre 5.1 64Bits. 2) I have another installation: calibre 2.50 32Bits (this is for testing plugins compatibility) 3) I opened my 2.50 calibre, and it was pointing to a library that was touched by calibre 5 (which uses a diferente database) 4) When I tried to delete a book from that library using 2.50, I got this SQLError too. 5) I changed it to another compatible library, and the error was gone. You downgraded to 4.23 or an older version? |

If you ever need to reinstall calibre again use the Windows uninstaller.
Some 3rd party uninstallers comb through the system and remove anything that looks like it might be related. In this case the one you used probably removed the "C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Roaming\calibre" directory, which is where the Preferences settings, plugins, customisations etc are stored. BR |
